Traces of Grace
Dear Fellow Parishioners; As you are aware, Fr. Mario returned to Mexico with his family to bury his younger sister, Blanca, who was tragically killed in an auto accident near Merced, California. It has been a very sad time for all of them, but knowing your thoughts and prayers of grace have accompanied them has helped to carry them through this difficult time. Fr. Mario has now returned to the parish this weekend (and it is good to have him back!) so please continue to carry him with your prayers. I wish to thank all of those who assisted his family with donations to help cover the cost of the funeral expenses. We will continue to help to defray some of the costs as a parish community. As our new liturgical year begins this first Sunday of Advent, we are given an opportunity to look more deeply at the whisperings of grace in our lives and the world around us. The Gospel Infancy Narratives give us a glimpse of the fragile beginnings of Gods grace breaking into our humanity. Jesus becomes the living witness of the Fathers love for his people. This is what we carry forward with us as disciples in this generation. As human beings we attempt to capture that living spirit of Jesus by the way we live out our lives. We are grace bearers everywhere we go and in everything we do. Part of the mission of the Church is to express that through beauty and structure. In the recent purchase of the Crystal Cathedral Campus, we have an opportunity to engage the Gospel in an even wider context than our own parish or our own families. Its not just about the buildings, but what the buildings can represent. All parishes in our Diocese are being asked by the Bishop to assist in this endeavor to call people to Christ through the renovation and reactivation of this tremendous opportunity to create a Catholic Campus of Christ Cathedral. Over the next several weeks, I will be sharing with you how our first ever Diocesan wide campaign will take place and the reasons why it should take place. Together in Christ;

Rasgos de Gracia
Queridos Feligreses, Como ustedes ya saben el Padre Mario regreso a Mxico con su familia para sepultar a su hermana menor Blanca, quien trgicamente muri en un accidente automovilstico cerca de Merced, California. Este ha sido un momento muy triste para toda la familia, pero sabiendo que sus oraciones y pensamientos estn con ellos, esto les ha ayudado en este momento tan difcil para toda su familia. El Padre Mario ha regresado a la parroquia este fin de semana (es bueno tenerlo ya de regreso!) as que por favor, continen llevndolo en sus oraciones. Quiero dar las gracias a todos aquellos que ayudaron a su familia con donaciones para ayudar a cubrir los gastos del funeral. Como comunidad parroquial continuemos apoyndolo con los gastos de esta terrible tragedia. Nuestro nuevo ao litrgico comienza este primer domingo de Adviento, se nos da la oportunidad de profundizar ms en nuestras vidas y en el mundo que nos rodea. Los relatos de la infancia de Jess en el Evangelio nos dan una idea de los inicios de la gracia de Dios en nuestra humanidad. Jess se convierte en el testimonio vivo del amor del padre para su pueblo. En esta generacin esto es lo que llevamos en nosotros siendo discpulos de Cristo. Como seres humanos intentamos capturar ese espritu vivo de Jess en la forma cmo vivimos nuestras vidas. Somos portadores de gracia en todas partes a donde vamos y en todo lo que hacemos. Una de las misiones de la Iglesia es expresarse a travs de la belleza y la estructura. En la reciente compra que hicimos de la Catedral de Cristal, tendremos la oportunidad de vivir el Evangelio en un contexto an mayor que en el de nuestra propia parroquia o nuestras familias. No se trata slo de edificios, pero todo aquello que representan los edificios. La Dicesis por medio del Obispo nos invita a apoyar este esfuerzo y llevar a la gente a Cristo a travs de la renovacin y la reactivacin de este proyecto y as mismo crear un ambiente Catlico en la Catedral de Cristal. En las prximas semanas, estar compartiendo con ustedes como iniciara esta gran campaa Diocesana y los motivos de ella. Juntos en Cristo;

NEXT WEEK-DECEMBER 9TH CONCERN AMERICA COMING TO ST. EDWARD
On Sunday, December 9, volunteers from Concern America will be returning with unique, quality handcrafts that provide us with the opportunity to purchase conscientiously. The gifts we find for special events, holidays, or to brighten our own homes are an exchange of caring with impoverished communities in developing countries. This year we have many new crafts from Bangladesh, El Salvador and Guatemala, Mexico and Honduras. Inspired by nature, these beautifully crafted textiles, ceramics and wood products, honor indigenous traditions, and were selected to be reminders that when a Concern America product is purchased we are providing a source of income to materially poor communities; promoting human scale endeavors; eco-friendly work patterns; and fair working conditions. You may view selections of their crafts on the web site: www.concernamerica.org.
