This article was mainly about acupuncture and its role in sports today. This article focused on an acupuncturist named Mark Kastner. Kastner works with athletes from high school to the professional level. He truly believes that there are benefits to acupuncture as it pertains to athletes. It can treat things such as bruising, swelling, ligament injuries, lower back injuries and ankle sprains. Acupuncture is believed to be effective because it acts as an anti inflammatory. It moves blood and reduces pain by increasing endorphin release. Acupuncture is not as popular do to the simple fact that many sports teams and medical staffs are hesitant to use it. They feel as if it is a liability and this is why many athletes have to resort to finding treatment on their own. It can be very beneficial to young athletes because their bodies will respond quickly to the treatment. This article comes from a very reliable medicine magazine. By using this article I can include examples of athletes that use acupuncture and their success rates. I can also raise key points as to why some feel it is not used as much.

This article focuses more on the history of acupuncture and how it is preformed. Acupuncture is not new to complementary medicine it has been around for over 2000 years. Smaller injuries only need 2 4 treatments while bigger more chronic injuries could need up to 12. Lots of research has been done to find out if acupuncture is really as beneficial as some believe it to be and there have been many positive results. There have been results in subjects that show improvement in pain levels and in walking. Acupuncture can be very complex and should not be used in place of other conventional treatments but it has shown to have its benefits. This source is very reliable because Dr. L. This article gives a basic overview of acupuncture and what it is all about. It goes over key points such as side effects and risk, how to find a qualified practitioner, and what to expect. One of the main risks it includes is the possibility of needles being used that are not sterile, which can cause infection. There are positives and negatives when it comes to acupuncture. It is important to find a qualified and reliable practitioner just due to the amount of risks there is when it comes to receiving the treatment. This will be important to incorporate into my essay because of some of the key facts that it lists. This book is very reliable due to the fact it s written by a very qualified author, Joyce B. Shannon.

This article is another overview of acupuncture and its methods. There is lots of information regarding where it is applied and the certain points that are targeted. In this section it also points out that the acupuncturist is the one who determines where the needles are placed. This book also has some very interesting points about safety. It claims that acupuncture is a lot safer than other therapy treatments and that one study calculated that an acupuncturist might cause less than one serious event per 100 years of full time practice. This source will be helpful to me when I explain what exactly acupuncture is in my essay. This book is credible because renowned author, Carol M. Davis, wrote it. The facts included in this book about safety will also be very helpful and beneficial to include in my paper.

This article is about treating sports head injuries with acupuncture. Like some of the previous articles this one claims that acupuncture is very effective. Most of the article really got into the particulars of what exactly was being preformed and how. While I might not use most of this article it will still be useful in providing extra support to my claim. This article come from a reliable sports journal so its content can definitely be used for support in my essay.

McNeill 4 This article was very informative and reinforced a lot of the facts and opinions that had been stated in the other articles. Combined results of studies and clinical trials have proven the effectiveness of acupuncture and that it is in fact beneficial. It helps with many injuries such as tennis elbow and runners knee. This article also states the fact that acupuncture should not be used in place of some ones normal treatment. It should be used for the purpose of treating pain so a person can continue with their regular activity. Another very qualified doctor writes this article and my essay will definitely benefit from some of the information it contains.
