Volunteer Opportunity Descriptions

One-Time Programs: ACT offers multiple programs that are of a short one-day or evening duration. Usually the time commitment is between 2-6 hours per program activity. Examples of these programs include: Early Childhood Preschool Family Nights, Festival Day event volunteers, Movie Nights and other special programming events. Weekly or On-Going Programs: ACT offers arts classes that meet regularly for a duration of time, often in tenweek segments. Volunteers serve as peer mentors, artist assistants and general program help in these classes and commit to volunteer during the entire program. The time commitment for these volunteers range from 1-3 hours per week and for 4-12 weeks. Specific program opportunities include: Graduated Art classes, Arts & Mentoring classes, the Visual Voice project at Mary Free Bed, and other on-going classes. Programming Special Event Volunteers: ACT holds two large programming events each year and a few smaller events. Programming Special Event Volunteers help with organizing, planning, recruiting volunteers, and implementing the program. Usually the time commitment including leading up to, during, and after the event is between 6-30 hours. These opportunities include helping with ACTs annual Festival Day, Celebrate! Community Event, and other programming events. Fundraising Special Event Volunteers: ACT hosts two large fundraising special events and several smaller friendraising events annually to raise financial and in-kind support for the organization. Special Event Volunteers help with organizing, planning, soliciting and implementing these events. Usually the time commitment, including leading up to, during and after the special event , is between 6 30 hours. These opportunities include helping with the annual Art Auction, the annual Fundraising Luncheon, and other special one-time events and fundraisers. Office/Administration Help: ACT has opportunities for volunteers to help with basic office administration on an ongoing basis. Volunteers commit to help at least 3 hours/week and assist with a variety of office work, including: mailings, answering phones, filing, database entry, computer work, program prep and other general office support. Governance Committee & Board of Directors: Governance Committee and Board of Director Volunteers are invited to serve ACT in a specific professional capacity. These volunteers provide expertise, person-power, and community connections in a specific area. Board members are nominated and undergo an application process to join the Board of Directors. Other governance committee members are invited to serve by current committee and board members. Usually the time commitment for these volunteers is between 4-8 hours per month. Current ACT governance committees include Community Connections, Fund Development, Marketing, Program Sustainability, and Volunteer/Intern Management. Interns: ACT offers internships for people (generally students or recent graduates) looking to receive supervised training in a specific area. Interns are usually unpaid and commit to working with ACT for a specific length of time (often a semester) and commit to working between 10-15 hours per week. Interns are given increasing levels of responsibility within the organization and are expected to take on a leadership position within their area of internship (ie coordinating and administering a program or fundraiser). Possibilities for internships include Programming interns, Special Event interns, Graphic Design Interns, Non-Profit Management Interns, and others. Interested individuals submit a resume and letter of interest to ACT staff and are granted an interview based on qualifications and organizational need.
