Johnston, Joni. "Psychology Today." Psychology Today. (2012): n. page. Web. 30 Oct. 2012. This excerpt of the book The Human Equation helps explain the basic differences between male and female serial killers. The author goes on to tell how the term female serial killer is seen as an oxymoron to most people. Her excerpt also tells how sexual activities between a female serial killer and her victim are unlikely because sexual activity is not usually a female serial killers motive. Also, she talks about how female serial killers are more likely to use poison or suffocation as their usual methods, more silent methods; hence where she got the term silent but deadly. Joni E. Kelleher, Michael, and C.L. Kelleher. Murder Most Rare: The Female Serial Killer. Westport, CT: Praeger, 1998. Web. This book discusses not only the motives and nature of a female serial killer but the motives and nature of a serial killer in general. This book goes on to discuss how female serial killers make it more difficult for law enforcement to solve serial killer cases because the female serial killers have more complex and more well thought out plans than a male serial killer. Most serial killers (male) can go four years with killing before they are caught. However, female serial killers can go eight years with killing before they are caught. Female serial killers are significantly more successful than male serial killers are. The author of this book is Michael D. Kelleher who has also written articles for educational Criminology journals such as Crime, Law, and Social Change.
