-lower respiratory infections caused by S. pneumoniae, S. aureus, E.coli, Klebsiela, H. influenzae, S. pyrogenes. -septicemia caused by S. pneumoniae, S. aureus, E.coli, Klebsiela, H. influenzae. -Perioperative prophylaxis.
contraindicatio n -allergy to cephalosporins or penicillins. -use cautiously with renal failure, lactation and pregnancy.
-Bactericidal: Inhibits DNA synthesis in specifics anaerobes, causing cell death; antiprotozoaltrichomonacidal, amebicidal: biochemical mechanism of action in not known.
-preoperative, intraoperative, postoperative prophylaxis for patients undergoing colorectal surgery -Trichonomiasis -Acute intestinal amebiasis -prophylaxis for
-hypersensitivity to metronidazole; pregnancy -use cautiously with CNS disease, hepatic disease, candidiasis, blood dyscrasias, lactation.
Nursing responsibility CNS: headache, -check for liver dizziness, and renal lethargy, dysfunction, paresthesias lactation, GI: N&V, diarrhea, pregnancy, and anorexia, allergy to abdominal pain, medication flatulence, liver -sensitivity tets toxicity before and GU: nephrotoxicity during therapy if Hematologic: expected bone marrow response is not depression seen Local: pain, -have vitamin K abscess at available in case injection site, of hypoprophlebitis, inflation thrombinemia at IV site occurs -discontinue if hypersensitivity reactions occur. -teach pt to avoid alcohol while taking this drug, that the pt will experience these side effects: stomach upset or diarrhea. CNS: headache, dizziness, alaxia, vertigo, incoordination, insomnia, -assess for CNS seizures, fatigue or hepatic peripheral disease; neuropathy. candidiasis, GI: unpleasant blood dyscarias, metallic taste, pregnancy, anorexia, N&V, lactation.
