Also, although this may seem feel that it allowed me to become more in touch with my writing. me to improve on weird, I take pleasure in making sure my handwriting is neat and this allowed

Regardless of the situation, I believe that

if

these two aspects of

life define me, then, by default, I

will

be successful. Although general, these are two complex, ever-changing facets of success.
(,, r..r

Because of their enigmatic composition and my constant quest to have formed me into the person

full envelope these goals, they

am.

Of these two goals, the one that receives the majority of my attention is excellence. From
a

young

age, myparents engendered the need in me to be excellent in whatever

I choose to do. In

this case, excellence has a more loose interpretation than simply "being good". It has come

Under the category of excellence, academics are where fifty percent of my focus goes. In

addition to excellence and equality contributing to success, knowledge is almost as equally

essential. Maybe

it is because of my parents pushing me to do well in school or my belief that

knowledge is a key to success, but I have always had an insatiable appetite and curiosity for
gaining knowledge. Because of this, school has always captivated my attention and made it easy

to leam. Even in subjects, like English, that I am weaker in, there is still an eagemess to become
a better-rounded and educated

individual.

This leads me to my choice in which major I have chosen. I have always found success
and because my mother is a chemistry teacher, I have always and enjoyment in math and science,'utuLil

Especially before college, excellence has shaped the way I perform athletically. Athletics
have always played an important role in my life.

It consumes twenty-five percent of the

remaining fifty percent of my focus. For every sports season since I was five, I have always been involved in a sport whether it was soccer, baseball, basketball, golf, or football. Within these
sports,

' J:'J (-\l/'

Now I am adapting to a new definition of athletic excellence. Now it is about staying in

shape, being healthy, and having fun. For me the biggest challenge was leaving basketball.

Throughout high school, basketball was ayeff round event. During the summer, practices and
camp were fun. Then the season came around and things got serious. But, for me at least, it was

more than a sport. As a team, basketball became a close bond between the guys on our team. We

became more than friends; we were a family. We had fun playing together. We played with

excellence that comes from this memory is the lasting friendships that were built, the joy we

playing the game we all loved together, and being together as a family. But now, things

are

different and life moves on without pausing to reflect. This was the hardest part about leaving high school, leaving the ciose friends I had made. Lastly, the final twenty-five percent of my excellence focus is allotted to my friends.
Excellence in this instance is defined by having fun and enjoying the moment before us, living in
the present, putting the past aside, not worrying about the future. Friends are essential to life; at least they are to mine. They bring fun and excitement whether

it is going camping during the

summer or kayaking in the middle of the week. They bring support when it is needed, and I dothe same for them. Excellence is about sharing the moment and unwavering reciprocity. I feel

Now to the second aspect of success, equality. It is my firm belief that one must be able
to treat others equally before being truly successful. Whether this means not discriminating

of

It is not my position to limit someone else's religious or marital rights based on my

beliefs. Because of this, I try to remain impartial in all situations. This, in tum, will lead to great
success.

Doctors of {*^r\"-)La ,,xar* "k r * today are causing this problem with their generous use of prescriptions to treat the simplest of illness. -":Vf* Y/'c\t; i''

They feel that, to make their job easier, they should prescribe drugs, specifically antibiotics, to cure basic

ailments. We share an opposing belief to this.

We are people who are suffering the downfalls of this drug-driven business. We are patients

who consult our doctors with confidence and get let down. lt is our belief that antibiotics should be used very conservatively in order to prevent the development of highly resistant bacteria yet we "insist on getting antibiotics from the doctor to treat a cold or the

flu"(Dilgrer

Health 2012). Antibiotics should

only be used in extreme cases to insure that overuse is not leading the world down a one-way street of no return.

We believe that it is in our best interest to leave as much healing and cleansing to natural
medicines and processes as to not create a dependence on the ever-increasing strength of antibiotics. Soon antibiotics will have little power over the bacteria they have created and mankind will be left

without a cure for these super strength bacteria. "lt is important to slow the development of resistant
strains by reducing rampant overuse of antibiotics"(NYTimes.com

2012). {

The Doctors

As doctors, we are concerned only with the welfare of our patients and curing them as quickly as possible. Modern day drugs have made it convenient and easier for us

to prescribe antibiotics

as

the

simple fix for any ailment. Not only is it easy, it is more profitable for us to hand out prescriptions for
any sickness. We feel that we are acting in the best interest of both us and our patients.

ln terms of highly resistant bacteria, we acknowledge that it is becoming an increasingly more

urgent problem. "'Over the years, we have seen an increase in this antibiotic-resistant bacterium, both
in the U.S. and also worldwide"'(NPR 2012). Our actions are causing this problem, but until an easier

solution is found we will continue to use prescription strength antibiotics to treat sicknesses. Also, with today's advancing technological knowledge, drugs are becoming more potent. So, as long as the strength of drugs continues to killthe resistant bacteria, we believe that there is not a problem. We should be concerned with "developing new, more effective antibiotics"(NYTimes.com 2A7\.

')

Phm,lt
TheJhusinessmen

ALr'uh

cn'(

From the standpoint of a business, we encourage the prescription of drugs, obviously because it
is our business. We want

to make

as much

profit as possible so that we will be able to continue to

expand our business. The more pharmaceutical sales we can make, the better it is for our company.

"lncreasing sales in an existing market is one of the easiest ways to grow your business". We are purely
in this for profit.

We do not encourage the development of resistant bacteria from overprescribing drugs, but we see it as an opportunity for expansion. This provides us the opportunity to explore a new avenue of

business, to develop more bacteria killing medication. As far as we are concerned, super bacteria are
bad for mankind but they otfer room for expansion in our business. This is our ultimate
