11a An experiment consists of throwing two six-sided and observing the number of spots on the upper faces.Determine the probability that i. ii. iii. iv. v. vi. The sum of the spots is 3. Each die shows four or more spots. The sum of the spots is not 3. Neither a one nor a six appear in each die. A pair of six appear The sum of the spots is 7. OR b. i. State and prove Bayes theorem. ii. In a bolt factory, machine A,B,C manufacture respectively 25%,35% and 10% of the total of their outputs 5,4,2 percent are defective bolts.A bolt is drawn at random from the product and is found to be defective. What are the probabilities that it was manufactured by machines A,B,C. 12. a.i. A discrete RV has the following probability distribution find x 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 P(x) a 3a 5a 7a 9a 11a 13a Find i. the value of a (ii). P(x>3) (iii). The distribution function of X ii. ax,0 x 1 a,1 x 2 b. If the density function of a continuous RV X is given by 3a ax,2 x 3 0.otherwise.

Find the value of a and the cdf of X. 13.a. In a test of 2000 electric bulbs it was found that life of a particular make was normally distributed with an average life of 2040 hrs and S.D of 60hrs. Estimate the number of bulbs likely to burn for i. More than 2152hrs. ii. Less than 1950hrs. iii. More than 1920hrs but less than 2160hrs. OR b. Describe the types of sampling. 14. a.i. The mean streangth of a certain cutting tool us 41.5hrs with a S.D of 2.5hrs. What is the probability that a random sample of size 50 drawn from this population will have a mean between 40.5hrs and 42hrs. ii. In a Quality department of manufacturing paints at the time of dispatch of decorators 30% of the containers are found to be defective. If a random sample of 500 is drawn with replacement from the population. What is the probability that the sample proportion will be less than 25% defective. OR b. A random sample of size 100 is taken from a population whose mean is 60 and variance 400 using CLT find what probability that we can assert that the mean of the sample will not differ from more than 4. 15.a.i. A sample of 100 measurements at breaking strength of cotton threads gave a mean of 7.4 and S.D of 1.2gms. Find the 95% confidence limits for the mean breaking strength. ii. A Stock market analyst wants to estimate the average return on a certain stock. A random sample of 15 days yields an average return of x =10.37% and a S.D s= 3.5%.Assuming a normal population of returns gives a 95% confidence interval for the average return on this stock. OR b.i. Define t-distribution and write down its properties. ii. In a random sample of 100 men taken from village A, 60 were found to be consuming alcohol. In another sample of 200 men taken from village B,100 were found to be consuming alcohol. Construct 95% confidence interval in respect of difference in the proportion of men who consume alcohol.
