Rising consumer awar eness about the health hazards of carbonated drinks is leading to a shift toward s RTD tea and coffee. Another major driver is surge in the health conscious popu lation who prefer antioxidant property of RTD tea or the instant energy of coffe e. Companies in the last decade have positioned the RTD tea and coffee market as re creational products, which has proved beneficial in attracting younger populatio n. Advancements in technology and production efficiencies are likely to lead to lower labour costs. Furthermore, the focus on high-protein, low-sugar diets is s timulating demand for green tea, ground coffee and artificial sweeteners, which have shown strong signs of promise over the past three years. The top two tea producing nations China and India, collectively produce about 60 % of total global tea output. India is the second-largest tea producer and consu mer after China and fourth largest tea exporter after Kenya, China, and Sri Lank a. The key coffee producing and exporting nations are Brazil, Vietnam, Columbia, Indonesia, Ethiopia, and India, among others. Brazil is the world s largest produ cer, exporter and consumer of coffee. Adds Kapadia, Wider health awareness, a burgeoning middle-class population with b usy lifestyles and increase in disposable income is making consumers opt for RTD tea and coffee. In view of the uniqueness of the show, it is expected to be attended by over 10,000 trade buyers and general visitors. India s per capita tea consumption stands at 711 grams per head during 2011. Howev er, this is considerably lower than other tea drinking nations such as Ireland ( 3 kg), more than 2 kg in U.K., Turkey, and Iraq, and more than 1 kg in Sri Lanka and Pakistan. This signifies remarkable potential in domestic tea consumption. The domestic coffee consumption too has been continuously growing at annual aver age rate of 6% and is largely on account of a thriving Independent upscale caf cu lture. Domestic coffee outlets which have a lot of appeal for the new generation - are set to increase multi-fold within next 3 years and the foray of global pl ayers such Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts in India can only herald a strong growth t rend in future. India, which exports more than two-thirds of its coffee output, grows coffee primarily in its Southern part.
