Minutes of Reorganization Meeting December 3, 2012

The Reorganization Meeting of the Octorara Area School Board was held in the Octorara Jr./Sr. High School Multi-Purpose Room on December 3, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. Ms. Bowman, Mr. Ganow, Mr. McCartney, Dr. Melton, Mr. Norris, and Mr. Stoltzfus were present. Mr. Hume, Ms. Johnson, and Mr. Lapp were absent. A moment of silence and the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag preceded the meeting. Dr. Newcome, Superintendent, called the meeting to order at 7:30. Dr. Newcome asked for nominations for a temporary president. Ms. Bowman nominated Mr. Ganow, second by Mr. McCartney and approved by all members present. Mr. Ganow was elected temporary president. Mr. Ganow asked for nominations for the position of President of the Board of School Directors. Ms. Bowman was nominated on motion of Mr. Stoltzfus, second by Dr. Melton. Mr. Ganow was nominated on motion of Mr. McCartney. Mr. Ganow

respectfully declined the nomination. Nominations were closed. Ms. Bowman was elected President of the Octorara Board of School Directors by a vote of 6 to 0. Ms. Bowman thanked the Board for their time and effort in their responsibilities as Board Members. She said serving on the Board is often referred to as a thankless job. She does not believe that to be so; however, it is sometimes a difficult and time consuming job. She thanked Board Members for their support and commitment. Ms. Bowman asked for nominations for the position of Vice-President of the Board of School Directors. Mr. Norris was nominated on motion of Mr. Ganow, second by Mr. Stoltzfus and approval of all members present. Nominations were closed. Mr. Norris was elected Vice-President of the Octorara Board of School Directors by a vote of 6 to 0. Ms. Bowman made the following committee appointments: Representative to the Lancaster County Tax Collection Bureau for the Calendar Year 2013 (Dan Carsley) Alternative Representative to the Lancaster County Tax Collection Bureau for the Calendar Year 2013 (Kim McCully) Legislative Committee Representative for the Calendar Year 2013 (Lisa Bowman) I.U./C.A.T. Board Representative (Term Expires 2014 Nelson Stoltzfus) Ms. Bowman thanked Mr. Stoltzfus for the extra meetings he attends each month by serving on this committee as well as the Chester County School Authority committee. She thanked Mr. Stoltzfus for this commitment. Ms. Bowman read the following resolution regarding meeting times into the minutes: That in conformance with Act 175 (1974) PA Legislature, the Octorara Area Board of School Directors will meet in Regular Session in the Jr./Sr. High School on the third Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. and that the Board Work Sessions, open to the public, will normally be held the second Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Jr./Sr. High School. Executive Sessions will be scheduled before and/or following each Regular and Work Session Meeting. The annual Reorganization Meeting will be held on December 2, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. followed by the December Work Session. The December 2013 Regular Monthly Public Board Meeting will be held on December 9, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. This resolution was approved on motion of Mr. Stoltzfus, second by Mr. McCartney and approval of all members present. There being no further items of business, the meeting adjourned at 7:38 p.m. on motion of Mr. Stoltzfus, second by Mr. Norris and approval of all members present. Respectfully submitted,
