Welcome
Welcome to the new year edition of the Leisure & Life magazine. We have a great range of courses starting this January in convenient community locations near you. You can learn a new skill or make more of an existing hobby, and our short courses can provide an excellent starting point for progression onto higher level study. This new year you could take up Indian cookery, improve your computer skills, learn professional dress making techniques, or take stunning digital photos, to name but a few. Our courses take place in community venues across the local area and this term we have added St Michaels Mount Community Centre in Hitchin and Mrs Howard Hall in Letchworth to our list of locations. Studying is one of the best investments you can make towards your future and learning a new skill can help you get more from life, both at home and a work, or even set you on the road to starting your own business. We are constantly updating our courses and offer new and exciting topics every term. If there are any subjects which we dont currently offer and you would be interested in, please call us on 01462 424242.

I have worked at NHC for about 7 years, teaching a huge variety of cooking courses. I think the most popular evening class is Cooking Around the World. I also teach family learning Big Chef / Little Chef classes, where a child works with their parent or grandparent. It really is very touching to see the childs joy at spending such a special time with their close relation. In addition, I also run themed courses for parents and children such as Cupcake Making.
Want to learn some more recipes? Why not enrol on our Flavours of the Orient course.

When making a good first impression, its the details that count and having your nails manicured speaks volumes about you as a person. More often than not we greet new people with a handshake and therefore having clean hands and manicured nails play an important role when creating a good impression. Contrary to what many people think, nail care is essential for both men and women. Nails are easier to cut when soft, so start by washing your hands in warm water with a herbal soap. If you need to take off a lot of length, start by clipping your nails; clip straight across the tip of the nail, leaving a square edge, leaving enough length for shaping with an emery board. Next use an emery board to shape the nail by starting in the corners and sweeping towards the middle of the nail. Be careful not to apply pressure to the top as this may cause the nail to crack and break. Once you are happy with the length and shape of the nails, wash and dry your hands again and apply a hand moisturiser. If you are going to apply a nail polish, you will need to apply two to three thin coats of polish, waiting for each coat to dry before applying the next.
