INTRODUCTION OF FIRE ALARM SYSTEM A Common concern is shared by all Automatic Fire Detectors/Detection methods. The criteria is to detect a hostile fire early enough to allow for effective counter actions i.e. evacuation of persons or extinguishment of Fire. The Fire Detection and Alarm System will provide instantaneous Audio Alarm when Fire is detected, in order to prevent loss of life, property and valuables etc by warning inhabitants in the affected premises immediately, so as to obtain necessary help from Fire Fighting and Salvage Staff. The Fire Alarm System may be activated by automatic detection devices or by manual operation. Fire Detection and Alarm System performs the function of monitoring the areas from Fire continuously and giving an Audible Alarm in case of sensing of Fire. The sensing of the Fire is accomplished through various types of detector/LHS Cable/I.R. Detector etc. Fault is the detection of short circuit or open circuit in the Detector loop. Various areas are provided with the adequate number of Detectors for continuous monitoring.

FAP#1 connected with PLC based control panel through Interface Modules. 4.1.2 REPEATER PANEL Repeater Panel repeats all the Fire Signals appearing in the Fire Alarm Panel. Through Repeater Panel we can silence or can pass evacuation command to any of the Main Fire Alarm Panel as all the seven (07) Fire Alarm Panels and Repeater Panels are in Networking. Description Location of FAP Tag No. Repeater Panel Fire Station RP#1 Repeater Panel Security Building RP#2 Repeater Panel Gate House RP#3 5.0 SYSTEM OPERATION In the event of fire inside any of the protected area, the detectors will sense the fire and give signal to the Fire alarm panel which then actuate the corresponding output devices (Hooters & Relays) as programmed to operate the fire extinguishing systems or provide necessary audio alarms. The exact location where the fire / fault generate will be displayed on eight lines of 21 characters (168 Characters total) LCD display of Fire Alarm Panel. Manual call points are provided floor-wise near exit/staircase for the various buildings provided with fire alarm system. The addressable Manual call points are provided for the manual operation of output devices as programmed All the CABLE GALLERIES are protected by MVW spray system and are provided with both digital type LHS cable & intelligent Multi-sensor Detectors. On detection of any abnormal change in Smoke, heat level by detector, the Fire alarm panel gives the location of the area on the LCD. The FAP then actuate the corresponding output devices (Hooters) as programmed. When the fire has been confirmed by the operation of two detectors (cross zoned), then Fire Alarm Panel operates the designated deluge Valve. After actuation of the deluge valve, the deluge valve Operated signal appears at Fire alarm panel. The LHS cables installed in the galleries detects the overheating generated due to the burning of cable & send the signal to the Fire Alarm Panel, which then actuate the designated deluge valve for extinguishing the fire. Deluge Valve Operated signal appears at Fire Alarm Panel with the help of pressure switches mounted on the deluge valve.

The CONVEYORS are protected by MVW Spray System and are provided with digital type LHS cable & I.R. Detector as per the specification. The I.R detector mounted on the specified conveyor detects the moving fire. On detection of the fire it stops the conveyor, thereafter the LHS cable detects the overheating generated due to the burning of coal & sends the signal to the fire alarm panel, which then actuates the designated deluge valve for extinguishing the fire. Deluge Valve Operated signal appears at Fire Alarm Panel with the help of pressure switches mounted on the deluge valve. The Fire Alarm Panel FAP#1 in Main control room unit-1 will be provided with computer, Monitor & all accessories such as video display unit, keyboard and printer for the Graphical Display & monitoring of all the areas which are protected by the Fire Alarm System. It gives us the detail of the sensitivity level of the detectors & the record of Fire & trouble conditions stored in the VDU. The Monitor will Display the Graphical representation of all the areas protected by Fire Alarm System. When any of the Detector, MCP, Monitor Module, Control Relay Module, LHS (Connected with Monitor Module), and I.R. Detector (connected with Monitor Module) operates the indication of the corresponding device and the area will flash on the Graphics of the PC. The PC based Central Monitoring Station with printer will be provided at Main Control Room unit-1. 6.0 Design Criteria The system is designed as per TAC & NFPA codes. Following salient features/ parameters are considered for design of fire alarm system. 1) The Multisensor & Heat detectors are provided in the protected areas. 2) The spacing of detectors is decided as per IS: 2189 & as per the specifications in each protected area, considering the construction features like beam depth, roof height etc. of each protected area. 3) Response indicators are provided for above false ceiling detectors. 4) Manual Pull Stations are provided near exit points & as per the specifications in each protected area. 5) Fault isolators Module are provided in the loop. 6) Electronic hooters are provided in each protected area.

INTERFACING OF NN100 GAS FLOODING SYSTEM WITH FIRE ALARM SYSTEM NN 100 Protected areas are interfaced with Fire Alarm System with both Multi-sensor & Photoelectric detectors. When the fire in NN 100 Protected area has been confirmed by the operation of two detectors (cross zoned), the Fire Alarm Panel triggers a series of actions, operates the sounder and after the prescribed time delay period, operates the Solenoid Valve thus energizes the actuating cylinder, which then operates the Pilot Cylinder. The Pilot

Cylinder then opens the valve of Main Storage Cylinder allowing the NN 100 gas to escape from the storage cylinder into the distribution piping network installed inside the protected areas. The NN 100 gas discharges through strategically placed nozzles inside the protected areas, where it floods the protected areas and suppresses the fire. The Fire Alarm Panel will display the message of Discharge Indication. The Fire Alarm System Provides the Manual Release & Abort Unit for manual Release /Abort operation of NN 100 System. 7.1 Manual Release In case of big fire, when 30 seconds time delay cannot be afforded, the system can be operated manually by use of EMERGENCY MANUAL RELEASE push button, which is mounted at the protected premises as per the Drawing. IMP. : In case of operation of EMERGENCY MANUAL RELEASE NN 100 will be dumped immediately.

7.2

Manual Abort In case a fire detected is very small and can be put off manually, then isolating the supply to Pilot Solenoid Valve can stop release of NN 100 gas. For this, person has to operate MANAUAL ABORT UNIT mounted along with Manual Release UNIT. IMP. : This facility of ABORT is available within the prescribed time delay. Once timer has completed its time setting then, the Solenoid Valve will operate and NN 100 will be discharged.
