Implication There is not necessarily a social world capable of objective study. More interpretive Methods are required.

If people constantly construct their everyday situation of interaction then methods of interview questionnaire, are generally inappropriate. People may not know or be able to explain their actions. People act according to the meanings they derive from situation of interaction not just as a result of environment pressures. Behavior is less predictable because the actors can improvise as situations and knowledge change. Methods of Collection:Social survey is used to provide information. The more accurate and comprehensive the information the better can be the planning. The Classification of surveys: 1. Descriptive To describe what exists and to identify need. 2. Explanatory To identify changes and their causes. 3. Predictive To predict future changes and possible effects of new policies. 4. Evaluative To evaluate the result of past policies. Scumplimp: Researchers normally obtain a sample of the large population in whom they are interested. It is not necessary to ask everyone so long as the sample drawn is representative of the whole. The quality of the data is more important than the quantity. Random (Probability) Sampling: Each unit in the population has an equal chance of being included. This is the only way of obtaining a sample which is representative. (Revise for test idiot) Non-Random Sampling (Quota Samples): These are easy to obtain but while they may be representative in some known respects (For example: age, sex and class) they are not in terms of others. There may be Interview Bias preference for particular faces, dealing with the more articulate. (Revise for test idiot)

Sampling Frame: The lists, registers or records from which the random sample is drawn must be accurate, contain the relevant information, be up to date and be easily accessible. Non-Response: The effort of the researcher will be wasted if response rates are low respondents selected at random may have to be visited several times. This may increase the costs of the survey but it is necessary. This can be a major problem with a postal survey. The Questionnaire: This must be carefully prepared and tested to check its value. Words and phrases must be familiar and simple: Questions must be Ambiguous, it should demand short and easy to analyze answers. It should provide the data from which the hypothesis can be tested. Interviews: The structured, formal interview follows a set pattern. All the questions are decided before hand and the exact wording remains the same in each one. It is a standardized and Controlled. (Revise for test idiot) The informal unstructed interviews allow the respondent to expand and develop answers. A tape recorder could be used. The interviewer must be skilled and be able to direct the respondent. In order to obtain information relevant to the study. (Revise for test idiot)
