Seasons Greetings from Reach!

changes, and the completion of our first full course of the Home Achievement Programme (HAP). Thanks to all for their continued hard work, and to all our partners for jointworking to bring about the best results for our serviceusers. Merry Christmas!

Well done to our first HAP Graduates!

Reach are happy to see the first graduates of the Home Achievement Programme finishing their accredited OCN course this December! Jeremy Palmer, Callum Sardo and Steve Weston have seen the course through from its beginning in June 2012, covering topics such as Crime & Anti-Social Behaviour, Health and Advanced Tenancy Awareness. Callum has studied before at College but remarked that HAP is not a teacher/pupil thing, its a mutual thing...were helping each other come to answers. His favourite topic was Crime & Anti-Social Behaviour, something that isnt talked about enough like this. Jeremy commented on how he felt dubious when he first came to HAP but he soon got into the swing and learnt things Im going to be sad its over. Jeremy would recommend the course particularly to anyone in Supported Housing. He enjoyed that outside professionals came to the sessions regularly, from Curo, BANES Council, the policeits rare to speak to someone with a bit of clout! Steve said the best thing about HAP was all the information I had no concept before, every week a new topic. He was not nervous to start HAP due to the informal environment created by Coordinators Dave Griffin and Chris Hutchison its relaxed. They make you feel like youre part of it, its not someone telling you whats what. Jeremy, Callum & Steve (pictured below) have a recognised qualification that can make a material difference to their housing options: applicants enrolled on HAP can now state this on Expanded Homefinders applications after theyve attended six sessions.

HAP it isnt like anything Ive done before, its very informal... its about living by yourself... life itself.
Callum Sardo

Willing participants can feel a real and lasting benefit from taking part in the HAP course, as Steve said, HAP can't fix it if you dont come, youve got to be up for it, like anything in life! Please keep calling Reach and sending referrals our way; applicants can now enrol at the start of any module.

Emma Wells The new Reach Social Work Student

Im Emma and Im on placement at Reach for four months. I am really enjoying being part of a team again as I had worked for five years before going to University. I am learning so much from the placement and it is great to be working with people, not just writing essays and being stuck in lectures all the time. I think Reach provides a really good service and I am so glad that I get to be a part of it even for a short time!

HAP Id recommend it to anyone, everyone can understand it. I felt glad to be on the first round.
Jeremy Palmer
