Volume 12, Number 51

It Came Upon a Mid-thought Clear

Luke 15:17"But when he came to himself, he said, 'How many of my father's hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! And the light bulb turned on. The answer was there all of the time. Maybe most other people could see it. Maybe, others even tried to tell you about it. But you; you just couldnt see it. Then it came to you, and the light came on. Jesus told a marvelous story of a young man who chose a different direction than he had been taught at home. As he pursued his own direction, there came a point at which his direction wasnt getting him where he wanted to go. Even then, he refused to bend to the practical, righteous, and home-taught mindset. Ultimately, he found that he had fallen far from his dreams. He had sunk to depths that he never would have imagined. Then the light came on. He came to himself. For the first time in a long time, and maybe ever, he saw what he was missing. With the eyes of the Father, Jesus looked at a wandering and weary world. It was a world that was full of its own ideas. It was a world that was in the process of rejecting him. It was a world that was protecting its own darkened state. Jesus called to turn on the light. He offered, Come to me, you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28). Sadly, the record states, Men loved the darkness rather than light, because their deeds are evil (John 3:19). Is your light turned-on? God is often dramatic and subtle at the same time. He gives us the opportunity. He gives us the blessing. He sets it in contrast to the darkened choices that we might have been making. How foolish is it to wander in the dark, when the light is so ready? Russ
