Release Notes for Microsoft Pro Photo Tools 2.

2
These Release Notes give you information about Microsoft Pro Photo Tools 2.2 and contain information about known issues and possible workarounds for those issues.

Product Overview
Pro Photo Tools 2.2 is a Microsoft Windows application that allows photographers to add, change, and delete common metadata properties for digital photographs. It also allows users to add geographical identification metadata to images; translate string based geographical identifiers to latitude/longitude coordinates; export images to JPEG and TIFF; import track routes and displaying images with geographical information on map view

Installation
Windows Vista Run ProPhoTools.msi

Windows XP SP2 Please install the .NET 3.0 Framework before running ProPhotoTools.msi. Go here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx? FamilyID=10CC340B-F857-4A14-83F5-25634C3BF043&displaylang=en Run ProPhotoTools.msi

Codecs Microsoft has been working with the major camera manufacturers to provide codecs for their various RAW formats to their customers. Once WIC (available by default on Vista and downloadable on XP) and these codecs are installed, users will find that they can view their RAW files and thumbnails on Windows. To install camera manufacturers codecs:

Go to http://www.microsoft.com/prophoto/downloads/codecs.aspx and install codecs appropriate for your camera model.

Note: If you have Microsoft Photo Info 1.0 or Microsoft Pro Photo Tools 1.0 installed, you will be prompted to un-install it before installing Microsoft Pro Photo Tools 2.2

Known Issues
This list covers some of the known problems with Microsoft Pro Photo Tools 2.2. Please read this before reporting any new bugs You will be prompted to un-install Photo Info 1.0 or Pro Photo Tools 1.0 before installing Microsoft Pro Photo Tools 2.2. Some codecs do not support writing metadata on Windows Vista and Windows XP SP2. You cannot save metadata with the following codecs from Windows Shell or Microsoft Pro Photo Tools 2.2 o o o Pentax codec Olympus codec DNG codecs

Microsoft Pro Photo Tools 2.2 is not interoperable with Photo Info 1.0. Files modified with PhotoInfo 1.0 are not compatible. Applications writing XMP CreatorInfo struct are incompatible with WIC codecs. Changing the Photographer fields may not work. This will be fixed in an upcoming update to the Windows Imaging Component. You cannot view TIFF files with ZIP compression from Windows Shell or Pro Photo Tools 2.2 properly. This will be fixed in an upcoming update to the Windows Imaging Component. Drag-n-drop images in 3D view doesnt work properly for locales that use comma as decimal separator. This will be fixed in the next release of Virtual Earth.

The orientation of some .CR2 files is displayed incorrectly during image preview. Its a known issue that Pro Photo Tools 2.2 may not display correction orientation for .CR2 files with orientation specified as anything other than Horizontal (normal). Pro Photo Tools 2.2 do not support Canon 13 codec. For best results, use Canon 12 codec or latest version released by Canon

Running Pro Photo Tools
After completing setup, start loading your images by performing one of the options below: Run Pro Photo Tools.exe o o Drag-n-drop images from Shell into Thumbnails view OR Select File/Open Image(s) menu item (Ctrl + O)

Select Pro Photo Tools from Shell context menu o Select images, right click, select Pro Photo Tools

Manipulating metadata properties


To add, change or delete metadata properties for your digital photographs Select the desired image(s) from thumbnails view. To view or modify any metadata, select the task from task tree (upper left panel) and view or edit the metadata in the main panel (upper right panel).

Using Geo-tagging features


Microsoft Pro Photo Tools allows users to add geographical identification metadata to images; translate string based geographical identifiers to latitude/longitude coordinates; import track routes and displaying images with geographical information on map view.

Saving metadata
Save Selected Images Select the desired image(s) from thumbnails view, go to File Menu Save Selected images with new data (or Ctrl + S)

Save All Images Select File/Menu Save All images with new data (or Ctrl + Alt + S)

Other Resources
Tool tips You can find detail explanations of features or metadata fields by hovering the mouse over the fields or buttons. Toolbar You can get quick access to File/Open, Close selected file(s), Save selected file(s), Export, Rotation and Help via the Toolbar ( under the File Menu bar.
