Managers Musings
A few words from the Park Manager Darlene and I would like to welcome everyone back to Anglers Nest RV Park. We believe that the returning residents at The Nest have become part of an extended family, and we are joyful when we see the family getting back together. We also wish to extend condolences to the families of those residents who have passed away. It is a sorrow we share with all Park residents.

Fishing Fantasies
Facts and fiction from the Fisherrmen or Women

...then there was the "ladies fishing trip" to the River (Arroyo Colorado).... We were about 12 ladies, give or take a couple...and two men...Pat and Ace. We took them along to "run the boat and take the fish off the hooks (they volunteered).!!!! Anyway, it was a gloomy day to start with and by the time we arrived at the river the dark clouds opened up and it started to rain on us, which with the wind made it quite cold and uncomfortable...we donned rain coats and plastic bags, whatever we had or could find, and commenced fishing. It did not take long for the first few fish to be caught and safely stored in the fish tank. All planned whining, bitching and complaining was forgotten...we were caught up in the fishing fever, and loved it... By the way, we caught more fish than the guys did and in the end, had plenty of fish for a wonderful fish fry...excellent. So, we hope there will be a "next time for a ladies fishing trip. We would like to challenge the men to beat our number of fish caught! "Early to bed...early to rise...fish all day...make up lies" Submitted by that prettiest of cub reporters Ursula.Pool

Residents should be aware that the Park speed limit is 5mph. We ask that everyone adheres to this so that we can all enjoy our time here. The general rules are printed and are part of the registration package each and every resident receives upon entry into the Park. Please make sure that you read and understand all the rules. If you have any questions or comments feel free to contact the Park Manager any time. 956-456-6932

GIFT EXCHANGE
.Please remember that there is a resident gift exchange at Christmas. Those of you who wish to participate can do so by following these guidelines: 1. 2. 3. The gift giver will remain anonymous (good luck with that) Gifts should be in the $10 range Men will purchase a gift generally designed for men, while women will do so with other women in mind. As a rule, giving your husbands housecleaning services for a week should not be considered a valid gift, since that would probably be worth much less than $10. 4. Gifts can be dropped off at the Recreation Center on December 25th only, between 12pm (noon) and 2:30pm. Someone will be there to give everyone a ticket with their name or a number for each gift put under the tree. It is absolutely necessary to get that ticket, otherwise you will not receive a gift from Santa.

A FISHY STORY
A Texas Wildlife official noted that a road close to Los Indios was littered with dead crows. He went ahead and hired a leading ornithologist to study the event. The report came back a week later showing that only 2% of the crows were killed by different types of cars whereas most of the crows were killed by large vehicles. The report went on to say that when crows descend upon a highway to eat carrion, they always have a lookout in a nearby tree to warn of dangers. Apparently CAW CAW is a great way to avoid cars but no crow has yet learned how to scream RV, RV.

CONNIE & SKEETER HALE

Im sure the Park residents have noticed the greener grass and the fruit on the trees. This is thanks to the watering skills of Skeeter and Connie Hale. They have assured me that they were happy to take on the task and it is quite obvious that they did it with gusto. Skeeter informs me that his original purchase of two fans for his personal use has grown into a small business of its own. The Hales purchased two more fans for the Recreation Center, then three more for another Park resident, AND then it started ballooning. They are well over the dozen mark, and Im sure it wont end there.

COMMITTEE REPORT
Our Committee meals that we charge for will now include beverages. You will have a choice of Coffee, Bottled Water or assorted soft drinks. We will be serving in two shifts for these meals only. There will be a signup sheet for serving at 4 pm and 5pm. This should help with seating space and for the cooks to get caught up between shifts. THERE WILL BE A SIGNUP SHEET AT THE HALL FOR ALL OF THESE EVENTS. ANYONE WHO COMES TO EAT AND DID NOT SIGN UP WILL HAVE TO WAIT UNTILL EVERYONE WHO SIGNED UP IS SERVED FIRST TO ASSURE WE HAVE ENOUGH FOOD FOR THOSE WHO SIGNED UP. Anyone who uses the oven or the microwave in the hall please clean it up after use. We do not want to lose the privilege of using it. If you have any ideas or suggestions as to what you would like to do for events there is a suggestion box by the mailboxes. Please feel free to let us know what you want, and we will try to make it happen.

Editors note: Please read that line about the kitchen again because the use of that equipment in the hall is truly a privilege and not a right.
We should take some time to thank those who have stepped forward and work on social committee functions. These people are not paid to do this, but do it for the good of all residents in the Park. This includes all of those that regularly help out at functions, either cooking or setting up before, or cleaning up after.

ASK US A QUESTION

OTHER PARK NEWS

Q. Where does the money go that the committee makes on paid events like the dinners? Cindy Mead: The committee tries to keep the price as low as possible to cover costs and to replace equipment in the Hall as needed. We have purchased fans to make activities in the Hall more comfortable and enjoyable for all. So far this year, the committee has purchased a new roaster to replace a defective unit. Much of this equipment is available for everyones use. There is an accounting of all income and expenses at every committee meeting. These meetings are an open forum and you are welcome to come and sit in.

.Ace and Darlene Edwards were wedded this year. The ceremony took place in MN with friends and family attending. Congratulations to both of you. Barb & Rick Colp want to thank George for his help in solving a problem they had with their RV coach. In Ricks words: George was amazing I agree, it couldnt have been said any better. Helen and Richard also say thanks to Pat and George for the wonderful job they did on our bathroom. We also appreciate all the work the gang did cleaning up our trailer prior to our arrival. Special thanks to the individual who left us the plastic mice, bats, rat, and spiders. Im sure that by now I dont have to mention

Q.

What happened to outdoor games?

any name (of our neighbour..oops, neighbor across the street) BTW, I like your new orange van.

Connie Hale: Anyone, at any time, can go to the hall and get the Bocci Balls, Ladder Ball, Washer Toss, and anything else available. There is plenty of room to play by the wood fence in the back of the park. The equipment is there for you to use. It is no longer scheduled due to lack of participation.

People who dont attend Social Committee meetings end up getting a job, so it may be worth your while to sit through the next one. See the Monthly Calendar for date and time. Carol and Tom Hyde are in Hawaii. They will be returning to us soon. Sharon Regan (daughter of Marlys Haggberg) has

Space Available

joined our family here at the Nest. A Memorial Plaque, commemorating residents of the Park who have passed away, will be mounted in the Recreation Center. People now staying in the Park are asked to submit names, which will be etched onto brass plates and then placed on the plaque. To have a name listed, the individual must have been a resident for more than one season, and have stayed in the Park after July 2004.

OWNERS MESSAGE
We wish a hearty welcome to our returning guests, and also to new friends who have come to the Park. It was quite a pleasure to return and find that the ELVES have been so busy. It is quite admirable that fellow park members got together to decorate the Center, and a fellow residents lot. Knowing how much we appreciate it, it is easy to realize just what it must mean to Marlys. We have heard that it was a fun day and are sorry that we missed it. Being involved with the other residents here in the park has brought much joy into our lives. We look forward to celebrating the Holiday Season with all of you.

Linda and Pat Faltersack

Its a nice warm day in mid November. A knock on the door chases the stupor away and there stands Mrs. Mead with that crooked little smile we all know and love. I knew right away that something was up. She then informs me that I had a task well suited to me. To sit and watch while others decorate Lot #1. She was right: a job I am well suited for. Members of the ELF DECORATING COMMITTEE spent some time untangling lights, deciding where to stick the trees (I refused to stand while that decision was being made), and placing candy canes on the deck. Here are pictures of the outcome, and some of the decorators.

EDITORS RANTS
These are my first editorial comments, therefore I ask for your patience or at least your indulgence. First, let's keep in mind what an editorial page is all about. In my humble opinion, it is a tool to get people thinking, and hopefully discussing, certain topics. Now since this is my page, only my opinion counts........just kidding :-), put those rotten eggs back in the garbage can. Every now and then, Ill throw in topics and opinions that are not necessarily my own. Remember, a tool for generating others to form opinions. You may not agree with me......okay let's be honest (this one time) and admit that "probably not agree" would be a better choice of words, but that's okay. I sometimes don't agree with myself. Have you wondering there, right? In any case, I ask that any and or all of you send me your ideas and I'll see just how easily I can turn them into illegible gobbledy-gook. I know, my first letter will be from someone who doesn't think "gobbledy-gook" is a word. Remember who's writing this...and by the way, someone will have to remind me constantly that I have to write "American". You're not sure what I mean? Well here's a clue: is it color or colour, is it grey or gray, is it zed or zee...........hmm, now that I think about it, I guess that last one doesn't count when writing, but be forewarned, I'll still be thinking "zed". So, this should be fun...eh? You may have noticed that there is some space in this, our first Newsletter. That is because there are very few articles to write. Anyone (and by that I mean EVERYONE) can, and should, submit stories, recipes, news, or other informational documents, but, colorful language or stories are verboten. See.........I can write languages other than Canadian! Your travel adventures, RV headaches, or any funny situation can be printed. Stories about how upset you are when you lose at nickels is not newsworthy and will probably not get to be in the newsletter (unless of course it's really funny). Once again, let's all have fun with this. Send your thoughts and ideas to me at: richarddesc@gmail.com Of course you can just drop in and tell me the tale, but I cant promise that it wont be embellished somewhat once its in the Newsletter Richard Deschamps (Lot 34)
