Stop the Bus!

1

Vanessas class was going to talk about Indian tribes at school that day. Her grandmother gave Vanessa permission to take her clay model of the colibr, or hummingbird, to school. The hummingbird model was an important part of Grandmothers collection of Indian things. As she boarded the bus, Vanessa greeted the bus driver and showed him the colibr. Then, she set it down on the seat next to her. When they arrived, she picked up her backpack and got off the bus. As the bus pulled away, she remembered the colibr. It had remained on the bus! The bus was gone! How would she tell Grandmother about the lost model? Vanessa worried that her grandmother would be upset. When she got home, the model was on the table next to Grandmother! But how? Grandmother told Vanessa the bus driver had returned it. Vanessa decided she would thank the driver. She also learned to pay more attention to other peoples things as well as her own.

Drip Art
1

Have you ever scribbled on a piece of paper and called it art? One great artist is best known for dripping and throwing paint onto a large sheet called a canvas. He became famous by creating paintings made of scribbles! Jackson Pollock was an artist during the 1900s. The art he created was called action painting because he moved a lot while he painted. He worked with his canvas on the floor so he could move around his painting. While moving, he used a variety of objects to splash and drip the paint. Pollock didnt just use brushes to paint. He experimented with sticks, spoons, and sprays. He poked holes in the bottom of paint cans and let the paint drip onto the canvas. Often, he just poured the paint rather than using any other tool at all! Pollocks unique way of painting made him very popular. Translation: to scribble: hacer garabatos
