Tony went to his familys restaurant to help out for the day. They usually got very busy on the weekends. His father asked him to clean the tables and chairs. Tony put his apron on and got to work. Before guests started arriving, all the salt and pepper shakers had to be filled. For the rest of the day, Tony would help hand out menus and pick up dishes from the tables. He did such a good job that his father asked him to help him the following day, too. Tony said hed be glad to do so.

Of the remaining water that we can use, only 1% is fresh water. Most fresh water is frozen in icebergs and icecaps, and some is too far underground for us to get to. In addition, our water is being contaminated daily by none other than ourselves. (Pause 3 seconds)

On long weekends, if their daughters made good grades at school, Carmens parents would take them to visit their aunt. She had a wonderful country home far from the city. Carmen felt such freedom when she visited the country. She wasnt like her sisters at all. She didnt make friends as easily as they did and couldnt talk to just anyone. But in the country, there WAS a friend she could talk to easily. Millie, Carmens friend from the country was special, but she was far from being like anyone else. Millie was actually a horse. Throughout the years, they had gotten to know each other very well. And even though Millie didnt talk back with words, Carmen understood her perfectly. Carmen knew Millie loved apples and long walks. She knew when Millie wanted to be brushed or when she was tired. And Millie always knew how Carmen was feeling. If Carmen was sad, Millie would push at her gently with her cheek. If Carmen was happy, Millie smiled at her with her eyes. Maybe their friendship was unlike any other. But that didnt matter. Carmen knew that it was just as special.
