INTRODUCTION
The content of the 2 days course is designed for young managers, executives, R&D personnel and engineers involved in daily industrial demands. New recruits will also find the training module very helpful in coping with their new working environment. Intended to help mould employees into their respective establishments, the module contains 4 major parts designed to provide a comprehensive guide to the theory and practice of modern industrial management principles. Topics selected deals with major industrial concepts and philosophy towards implanting the skills needed to blend-in and to cultivate rational scientific thinking in decision-making processes. Besides understanding and applying cost effective industrial processes for improved productivity, the course will also look into successful human-human relationship within the pyramid of management. Here, trainees will be coached on how to apply a positive outlook towards daily challenges and obstacles while still maintaining good productivity.

COURSE FACILITATOR
DR. VENGADESH PERIASAMY completed both his
undergraduate, BSc. (Hons) and postgraduate degrees in Physics in University of Malaya (UM). After a short stint as a Research Assistant in Department of Physics of the same university, he was absorbed as a Faculty member upon graduating with a PhD in April 2007. A biophysicist by interest, Dr. Vengadesh joined Low Dimensional Materials Research Centre (LDMRC) specializing in Solid State Physics and Semiconductors as a Research Fellow. His field of expertise and interest mainly involves DNA sensors, Nanogaps, Biophotovoltaics, Nanoelectrodes, Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) based Molecular Electronics, Self-Assembly and Nanomedicine. His current research groups consist of numerous final year projects, MSc. and PhD. students comprising of various disciplines and nationality. His resulting research activities have been published in various high impact factor journal papers, proceedings, patent, book and book chapter. Currently, research collaborations are ongoing with Centre of Research in Electrochemical Science and Technology (CREST) in the University of Cambridge, Institute of Ocean and Earth Sciences in UM and with Sunway University in different research projects. The speaker has many years of teaching and training experiences, especially relating to his field of expertise involving Semiconductor Devices, Industrial Management and Human Resource. Besides local participants, his trainees hailed from various countries (Middle East, China, India etc.) involved in petroleum, semiconductor, electronics, pharmaceutical and other industries. Besides taking part in many conferences and symposiums around the world, he has also been invited to deliver lectures as Visiting Scientist in CREST, University of Cambridge and Department of Biochemistry in Marburg University, Germany. Recent recognition includes invitation by Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) to compile his patent to be included in MOHEs book of innovation for year 2012. The invention, which involves fabrication of Nanogaps intended for application as nanoelectrodes in nanosensors, was awarded a silver medal in Persidangan dan Ekspo Ciptaan Institusi Pengajian Tinggi Antarabangsa (PECIPTA) 2011 held in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) in September 2011. Based on the expertise within his field of research, Dr. Vengadesh has been appointed as reviewer for many refereed Elsevier journals, which includes Q1 journals such as Material Engineering and Science C, Organic Electronics and Journal of Colloids and Interface Science, Langmuir and others. His responsibility also involves serving as examiners for theses for MSc. and PhD. works both within UM and elsewhere. In 2010, Dr. Vengadesh was appointed as a member of the International Panel of Advisors for Dow Biophysics Graduate Programs, Statutes, Policies, Calendar and Curriculum in Pakistan and as an examiner in the Dissertation and Thesis Evaluation Board for The Department of Biophysics, Dow Medical College, Dow University of Health Sciences in Karachi, Pakistan. He has also been involved in many local and international conferences as committee member, scientific advisor and international advisory panel. Other professional activities include the position of company and technical consultant for MicroTest Troughs and Equipments from Russia. Dr. Vengadesh is also the member of the Institute of Physics (IOP), London (since 2007) and Society of Porphyrin and Phytalocyanines (since 2010) based in France. His community commitments include conducting a science workshop during NANOFEST 2011 held in Pusat Sains Negara (PSN) in Kuala Lumpur. Dr. Vengadesh was an invited judge for the science competition, Junior Iron Scientist 2011 also held in PSN. Other commitments involve his position as the Project Director for a bilingual science magazine published quarterly from 2009 to 2011 and Judging and Organizing Committee member for the National Science Fair for Young Children (NSFYC) in 2008 and 2010. He is occasionally invited for community talks and discussions in ASTRO, which also includes as a Guest Speaker for the Malaysian Astronaut Program on October 2010.

METHODOLOGY
The module will involve discussion type learning where audio-video inputs coupled with group/individual project assignments/presentation are applied to boost and reinforce the understanding process. Case studies involving real-world industrial problems will be discussed and participants trained to solve the issues at hand using scientific approach rather than emotional decisions or rule of thumb.
