BUILD INNOVATION CAPACITY COLLECTION SERIES


1. INTRODUCTION

Innovation - everybody talks about it. Innovation is the fuel for growth for economies in transition and in disruptions. Innovation capabilities are the intellectual capital behind the engine of growth and competitive advantages Most realized there are specialized competencies to build their innovation capital which often forms the core of the intangible, intellectual capital, knowledge flows and technology management of a firm. These set the innovative firm apart as discriminator of successful growth. This first 3 part of our collection of several programmes encompass a suite of integrative skills and education to enhance innovation capabilities at the three interacting aspects of individual as innovator, at managers of innovator and at functionally innovative organisational levels. Part 1 starts with IGNITING CREATIVITY & instilling an important belief creativity is a skill that can be learned and a selection of techniques is made available during the workshop to help germinate and accelerate the creativity in the context of cognitive challenges and design case study reinforcing the central importance of ideas generation and creative inventiveness in becoming an initiator of innovation. Part 2 continues with Shaping MANAGERS OF INNOVATORS, for innovation and develops a clear understanding of a managers crucial role in innovation, the specific skills needed to manage creatives and succeed in instilling innovation with demonstrable quality of exchanges with teams. Part 3 concludes with Shaping the ORGANISATION FOR INNOVATION. Whilst leadership extols innovation, this programme reveals the extent your organisations ability (& gaps) to expose new technologies, exploit market opportunities and innovation with guiding structure and process to convert concept to cash. Taken together as 3-in-1 Collection of programmes it challenges your conventional wisdom and corporate thinking on innovation. It proceed to infuse participants with latest thinking, practices and tools in evolving from boasting merely efficiency-driven, resource and asset led growth towards being genuinely innovation-driven enterprise. You will learn to generate new value, shake out anti-innovation habitual thinking; acquire competencies in innovation capabilities.

2. OBJECTIVES i.
Workshop Part 1 IGNITE CREATIVITY / SHAPING INDIVIDUAL FOR INNOVATION Learn to question conventional wisdom, traditional habits of thinking and break out into metaphoric thinking, lateral thinking and shift to new angles and starting points in solving problems, viewing issues and inspiring new ideas. Demolish remnants of mis-guidance on innovation. Infuse progressively with knowledge on HOW to think creatively, solve challenges and design creatively. Deconstruct innovative inability and reconstruct with capability to innovate with key concepts and principles breaking beyond narrow perspectives to broader awareness of innovation. OUTCOMES Enrich your armoury of Creative Thinking & Creative Problem Solving Techniques. Gain insight into how to build team to spark creativity. Test your ability in applying design principles to innovating product. Enrich techniques for solving problems that are difficult to explain, hard to follow, poorly defined and with uncertainties. Exposed to what most admired companies do in breaking down barriers for innovation.

ii. Workshop Part 2 SHAPING MANAGERS FOR INNOVATION, OF INNOVATORS


Learn leadership & managerial skills needed to succeed in working with innovationadept people. Develop self-awareness of the skills needed to reflect and act in instilling genuine innovation. Make the magic happen - change the mind-set of people and let creativity and innovation flourish. OUTCOMES Acquire specific skills you need to nurture as authentic Managers of Innovators. Rebase your personal understanding of innovation can you manage something you do not understand? Shape Pro-Innovation Habits-Attitudes-Behaviours. Unravel the determining factors & environment for innovation.

5. METHODOLOGY
All 3 programmes comes alive with a blend of case study, case forum, case-lets and both provocative and probing dialogue. Learning comes in the modes of immersive (learning by doing, in doing); affective (enrich motivation), cognitive (gain new insights, shake assumptions) and you get a personal sense of shifting paradigm, and removing a degree of thinking inertia. You come out feeling a sense of seeing innovation at a new level of abstraction, able to tie disparate information and the earlier puzzles over the fragmented pieces now seems less daunting.

6. FACILITATOR

MICHAEL SONG (BSc, PgD)


Michael is a Director and Management Principal of Black Swan Technology, a company specializing in fortifying the elements that makes managerial and technology success with strategic and innovative moves. Michael previously held the positions of Senior Director for R&D at a NASDAQ-listed technology company (NASDAQ:STEC) and Director of Software Engineering in a Fortune 500 company (Motorola). Pre-dating the above, Michael has experience of directorship / senior leadership roles including non-executive directorship in central Europe where he was privileged to serve alongside professors of management & technology from top business schools. Michael spent many early years as a consultant, educator and provided his technical and management services globally in some 30 countries. He has worked on several European research projects. He has co-authored a reference model on Software and Systems Engineering Acquisition under the umbrella of Eu-SPRITE2 Research programme. Michael was appointed external reviewer, external advisor by national agencies in APAC to raise their capabilities in software and product development programmes. He has been sought after as strategic facilitator, innovation coach and product advisor. Michael has served as advisor / consultant to multinational companies in APAC & Europe he gained many vantage points from technology, management and innovation leadership which grew a wealth of practical live-in-the question experiences across all stages in the business of new product development, creating and delivering value in competitive spaces. Through the course of his extensive travel and work he became involved with programme committees internationally and has spoken in over 35 international conferences including winning best paper award and as key note speaker. Michael has driven and managed large organisation transformation programmes (re-inventing corporate), complex consultancy projects (large scale, scope and unforgiving speed) and amorphous products development incorporating new technologies. Michael currently publishes several playbooks and booklets, research briefs and promotes extensive knowledge networking in areas of technology management, business simulation and innovation strategies. He dissects emerging knowledge and often adds his personal thoughts on management of technology and innovation practices.
