PROCEDURE FOR UNDERGROUND WATER CALCULATION REGIME
OF PEDUNCULATA OAK HABITAT IN PLAIN SREM
Abstract: The calculation of the influence of the underground water level on the
habitat conditions of pedunculate oak in the lowland Ravni Srem is presented. The
management method in these forests is greatly determined by moisture regime.
Hydrogeological conditions are significant factors of moisture distribution in the
soil during the vegetation period. In the river Sava alluvial deposits in Ravni Srem,

the serried type of aquifer was formed, mostly of subartesian character, connected
with river waters by hydraulic connection. The calculation of underground water
regime was adapted to the conditions of two-layer porous environment in the river
Sava alluvium, in order to define the oscillations of piezometric pressure in the
lower aquifer and the level of underground waters in the upper, less porous layer.

PROCEDURE FOR UNDERGROUND WATER CALCULATION REGIME OF
PEDUNCULATA OAK HABITAT IN PLAIN SREM
Summary
Due to evident changes in the pedunculate oak habitat in Ravni Srem, which occurred un
der the influence of natural and anthropogenic factors, the survival of these most valuable forests
of Serbia is at great risk. The survival and dynamism of pedunculate oak stand in Ravni Srem is
conditioned by the river Sava flood waters and by the level of underground waters. The degree of
changes in site conditions at the places of pedunculate oak intensive decline was defined by the
multidisciplinary research programs. One segment of the research is learning the underground
water regime. The analysis of hydro-geological conditions was conducted and the piezometric ob
servation network was formed along the established bioindication lines. The habitat belongs to the
wide alluvium of the river Sava. Two-layer porous surface was formed in the alluvial formation.
The lower, porous layer is formed of gravel and sand, and the upper less porous layer is built of clay
and silt. The river Sava bed is carved into these sediments which is a direct hydrological connec
tion between surface and underground waters. Therefore, the underground water regime depends
on hydrological state of the river Sava. The procedure of underground water regime calculation
was shown for the specific hydro-geological conditions in the Ravni Srem alluvium. Based on the
results of complex research, with the suggested procedure, it is possible to calculate the pressure
oscillations in the lower porous layer and the water level in the upper, less porous layer. The study
results will be in the function of soil moisture improvement during the vegetation period, in other
words, it will define the method of forest management.
