Tips For Purchasing Flashy & Functional Store Fixtures

What To Consider When Choosing Flashy Store Fixtures

Retail store fixtures are just as important to merchandising and the customer experience as any other part of an aisle. Most storefronts attempt to use fixtures that are as neutral as possible so that customers are focused on the merchandise and not the design of the space.

There are still some situations where a flashy fixture can actually work throughout a store as part of a targeted display. A flashy fixture must still be functional since it will need to perform just like any other traditional unit in the store. There are a few things to consider when choosing a flashy and functional fixture.

Appropriate Design
It is important to choose fixtures that are appropriate for the merchandise that is being sold. This means that the unit should be able to hold different items in an easy and secure way that makes sense. Some flashy fixtures are designed in ways that make accessing and stocking items difficult.

Appropriate Design

This occurs when the overall design of the fixture becomes the focus and not the products. The unit should also be able to hold a good amount of items. Fixtures that have very small display areas or shallow bins will become a restocking liability.

Not A Distraction
Flashy store fixtures should be interesting and should draw attention to an area without becoming too large of a distraction. Generic fixtures are not branded for a product.

Not A Distraction

This means customers who are distracted by a sculptural element, flashing electronic beacon or an interesting finish will not be looking at the products that are being sold. A fixture that is being used to promote a single product in an isolated area of the store, however, is an exception to this rule.

Integrates With The Store

The appearance of the fixture should be consistent with the rest of the store when the unit is going to be integrated into an aisle or wall permanently. A fixture that does not match the style that is present in the rest of the area will stand out and can create merchandising problems.

Integrates With The Store

The fixture can be distinctive and even very different in function or appearance from the rest of the units in the store although it should still have some type of consistency. A store that sells shoes on a slatwall should not suddenly introduce a single area that contains lighted acrylic bins full of disparate shoes.

Consumer Friendly
Flashy store fixtures need to be consumer friendly. The products should be easy to reach. The labeling on the products should not be covered or hidden by the fixture. The unit should not contain sharp edges or spring-loaded panels that could snap and harm customers who are trying to retrieve an item.

Consumer Friendly

Fixtures that include some type of electronic component should have all of the wires and other parts located in an inaccessible or hidden area. Consumers who are curious about an item will lose interest quickly if the product is too difficult to reach. Consumer friendliness should be the largest factor that is considered when choosing a new flashy fixture for a store.
