ORGANISATION: Mark out a pitch of 30x25yrds, with two full size goals. Split the teams, 3 defenders and one attacker, also known as the 'Sniffer'. Have a collection of balls ready by each goal to allow the game to be continuous. INSTRUCTIONS: Players cannot cross the half way line, indicated in yellow above. The defensive players outnumber the attackers by 3 to 1. Therefore the players discover that shooting from distance is the best option to score. Playing the ball into the attacker will leave them severely

out numbered in the offensive half of the field. In the example above: * * * * A1 looks up to shoot and realises he is being closed down and passes the ball around the back to A2. A2 continues to circulate the ball to A3 who is open to settle the ball. A3 shoots using a driven shoot (laces). A4 looks to get a touch to direct the ball into the goal, or looks for rebounds and pressures the goalkeeper.

SCORING: Teams score a goal as normal but with the conditions discussed above. KEY COACHING POINTS: 1) Encourage players to shoot from distance. 2) Discuss the type of shoots taken with the players. 3) Encourage good support, especially from the defenders to keep possession until a good shooting opportunity arises. 4) The 'sniffer' player needs to be switched on and looking for rebounds and deflections. 5) Goalkeeper can work on their technique and making saves under pressure from an attacker. 6) Goalkeeper using their feet to help keep possession. 7) Can we play the ball into the strikers feet for them to lay the ball back, or turn and shoot themselves? PROGRESSIONS: 1) Once the ball is passed into the sniffer by the defenders of goal keeper, oneof the defenders can go forward into the attacking half of the field and join the sniffer in the attacking half (they can also score from this half) 2) Remove the half way line and play normally, encouraging shoots from distance. VARIATIONS: 1) Add a second striker (sniffer). This gives the defenders less time to stage an attack and get off a good shot. If playing with 6 outfield players, have 4 at the back and 2 attacking sniffers.

NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS: Encourage shots all the time. This practice is highly competitive and is a players favourite. This drill highlights a very important area of the field where goal are developed and scored from. This drill provides hundreds of scoring opportunities for the outfield players and also gives the goalkeepers realistic game like situations which defenders infront and attackers chasing in for rebounds.
