Mohammad Omar Ariff Technology Creative Nominated by: Shahelur Rahman

To address the priority problem in IoE sites, we urgently required 12V batteries(unavailable in stock) for ericsson outdoor bts sites, where due to space constraints in the cabinet, 2V Batteries (available in stock) are not suitable to be added. We have already taken North Star 12V batteries from different indoor sites for the last 1 year. Now we found no indoor sites having good performing 12V NS batteries. Due to poor battery backup, outdoor sites were frequently experiencing traffic loss. Under such circumstances, as he had experience on Huawei outdoor bts back in Chittagong, he thought why not we use Huawei outdoor BBS cabinet for ericsson outdoor bts which will remove my requirement for 12V batteries. Hence we checked & collected the BBS cabinet from Tongi warehouse and installed it in Dhanmondi Rd7, where we succesfully inserted 2V batteries & solved the traffic loss problem. This case i think clearly depicts a sample of superb creativity which will solve our constraints in many other outdoor sites as well & will ensure optimum BTS availability.

Abul Kalam Mohammad Nazmul Islam Market Operations Ethical Nominated by: Sabbir Rashid
As a regional Manager, he has not accepted any unethical practice of any dealer. He has played an important role to kick out those dealers and I have seen some best ethical practices to choose the right distributor for replacement. Though he has been threatened by them, but he was stuck to his decision to discontinue with those non performing dealers, which makes the Comilla region the most successful one now. I am learning every day from his passionate & ethical attitude within the work or outside the work.

Sanjoy Kumar Das CRL Open Nominated by: Abir Zaman

Sanjoy Kumar Das joined Robi on March, 2012 while Tanvir Rahman was working here since September, 2006. As both of their teams (CRL and CS, respectively) are currently stationed at Robi Corporate Office 18th Floor, Sanjoy and Tanvir used to share friendly glances and exchange nods at elevator and common spaces at the floor. But, they got the great opportunity to know each other well while they were coupled to conduct Basic Computer Training under Robi CSR program. They conducted the training on 10th June, 2012 at Tanore Mohila Degree College, Rajshahi and set a practicing example of Openness. In the training, they worked as a team with friendly and open attitudes. Capitalizing on individual strength, they made up for their lack of experience as trainers. Rather than assuming the role of a preacher, they were facilitators and guides to the rural female students. Being able to ignite enthusiasm within the students for computer lessons, they ran the session for more than 4 hours in extreme hot and humid conditions. Yet after finishing the session, the students (majority coming from financially disadvantaged background) commented that they would attend it even longer! The Faculty of the College appreciated the Robi initiative very much and specially praised the open and interactive method of training followed by the team. The Technical teacher requested to re-run the session after couple of weeks, if possible, for students from Business Management section who missed it due to annual leave. The staffs from agency who partners Robi for this CSR initiative also commented that they really enjoyed the communicative open training mode of the team comprising Sanjoy and Tanvir. The teachers of the college also requested them to conduct a two days training for them if possible for their openness in behavior and the friendly attitude. Based on the above, I think Sanjoy Kumar Das and Tanvir Rahman have really set

practicing example of Open, one of the guiding principle Robi and are worth of being selected as Flag Bearers.

Mohammad Sharfuddin Shamim Technology Ownership Nominated by: A.Z.M Akhlaqur Rahman
Shamlapur Spur link (42m Tower), Coxs Bazar is one of those remote areas where Robi is the first cell phone operator who is providing network coverage. The site is situated at Baharchhara, Teknaf, Coxs Bazar. It is about 50 KM away from Coxs Bazar city, beside the sea. The site is separated from highway by hills, parallel to the sea. Only way of communication is privately operated motor cars (Chander Gari) running between Whykong and Baharchhara. It is about 10/12 KM journey through hills. Due to huge demand, we planned to install 2nd cabinet in the site. Accordingly, Mr. Sharfuddin was going to the site. The car started at 11:00 AM from Whykong. Just after 15 minutes, the car was stopped by a group of six Hill Muggers in a quiet place. They carried Double Barreled Gun and long knives (Chapati) with them. They fired their gun once to stop the car and then guided all passengers, along with driver and helper of the car, inside jungle and tied their hands with rope. After that, they searched the car and passengers and snatched all money, mobile phones and all other valuable goods in their possession. Two passengers, who did not have money to give, were beaten by the muggers. Fortunately, our colleague, Mr. Sharfuddin was not injured, though has lost money, watch and mobile phone. That is not the end. He completed the survey in the tour and supervised later works. Recently, we took another site in the locality, named Shamlapur-2. He surveyed the site too. He is a good example of our sense of ownership in our professional life.

A.F.M Ershadul Haque Market Operations Ownership Nominated by: Ishtiaque Mahbub
There are many moments where BPM team has found Mr. Ershad sharing his shoulder towards his team mates in crisis time. This unique quality of owning responsibility of his team mates constructive action makes him different from other leaders. This also gives enough confidence to the team to work confidently and accomplish companys goal. One such moment can be cited as when I was held responsible wrongly for delaying a particular project. Unfortunately, I was not in the office at that time (after office hour) and the response had to be made at that moment. Instead of creating a panicking situation, Mr. Ershad instantly calmed me down over phone and took my view of what is the actual scenario. After having a briefing of the situation, the reply was prepared and given to the concerned person. The situation was so complex that it took nearly 1 hr to script the final reply after few editing. During this whole time, Mr. Ershad constantly passed his positive assurance to me. Given the ongoing culture of the company, where getting backing from a line manager is a rarity, Mr. Ershad has shown his credibility of owning responsibility of his team mates and provided necessary support / backing towards his team mates in critical moments.

Md. Sayik Siddiquee

Technology Transparent Nominated by: Sadat Ahmed

Satkhira Sadar (SKSDR01) is the major Hub site as well as high revenue generating site. 10 more sites are dependent on this site. This particular BTS gives us around .9 million BDT per month. House owner of this building is not allowed us to enter into site. From the very beginning, this particular House owner was creating problems. We had to enter the site due to some physical connection modification. But we were not getting access to the site. From node point of view this site is really important for us. Majority revenue of Satkhira district depends on this site. We tried with local dealers to manage the house owner but he was not interested to talk with anybody. He wanted to talk with the owner of Robi. His demand was to either increase the rent or shift the tower from his building. Mr. Sayik Siddiquee (Officer, Billing and rental, ID-2255, Technology) had been assigned to solve this problem.

He was well experienced to manage the House owner. He tried to make the house owner understand over phone but failed. Then at 6.00 PM on that particular day he went to Satkhira to talk with the house owner. After several conversations (at around for 2 hours) with house owner and his family members he was able to make them understand and the issue was resolved. The next day Regional technology team got site access. On that particular day, another incident happened at Kanaipur site, Kushtia region. We were not getting access at site at around 00 am on 12-Jun12. Site was being run by battery backup. Low voltage alarm was there. If team did not get access then around 20 sites would be affected. Technology team did not get access because of site key issue. Land owner phone was not available. Then Kushtia region escalated problem to Mr. Sayik siddiquee. He managed the phone number of the house owner and arranged the key for access. The regional in-charge of Kushtia and Khulna congratulated to Mr. Sayik Siddiquee for his never dying attitude and passionate jobs to solve the problem. Mehedi Al Amin Market Operations Open Nominated by: Md. Moneruzzaman

Mehedi Al Amin, is a name that creates a perception to each and every one of this organization, a person of creativity, a person of strong analytical ability, a person who is passionate, a person who is joyous-loves to make fun, a person who has very good interpersonal relationship, and most importantly, a person who has the confidence to fight against any top management, even the MD. If he finds he has strong logic to debate. During one Eid, revenue of this company was less than the forecast. After in depth analysis, it was found that VLR of the system was down for some hours which caused a dip in the expected revenue. I found Mr. Mehedi fighting with management, even very hard with CTO, to make them understand that the revenue drop was significant. And that fighting ended with a very good decision; our

management team formed a cross functional revenue analysis team to give management right reasoning for revenue drop. I have learnt a lot different types of analysis from Mehedi bhai. I always respect and love him from my heart. I always pray for his career and good health.

A.S.M Abir Hasan Technology Creative Nominated by: Khondakar Md. Mubassir Rahman
Abir implemented generator control without VTMS by Our Eltek rectifier at Coygram site (BSAGL05) under BBH80. It worked by: capacity charging and discharging (function absent in VTMS) Voltage Timing Eltek rectifiers do not need VTMS and VTMS install cost. The solution also reduced frequent faults, saving replacement cost of VTMS. It also increased battery efficiency/longevity because it confirms battery charge and discharge by generator operation. Generator run time is reduced, as a result of which fuel cost is reduced (When battery capacity 100% generator will be stop).

Rahim ur Rahim CRL Respectful Nominated by: Humayun Kabir

For some time now, Mr. Rahim ur Rahman of the CRL, LIC unit has come to my attention for his noteworthy competence at work and his remarkable display of respectfulness for his co-workers. As the LIC unit operates 24/7, therefore they work even on the days of EID. Mr. Rahim always sacrificed his Eid vacation for his coworkers because most of his team members celebrate their Eid vacation out of Dhaka, he comes to office for their replacement. As a matter of fact, he has not taken a single public/Govt. holiday and EID vacation for the last two years. He compromises his time with his own family, only so that his fellow co-workers can enjoy the public/Govt. holiday and EID vacation cheerfully. By doing so he showed an excellent professionalism towards his work also. For his respectfulness towards the Law of the land and his commendable support to the Law Enforcing Agencies, on the last Eid ul Azha day, to sort out a national crisis he has received an appreciation letter as acknowledgment from the Deputy Police Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, which is actually a matter of pride for Robi. It is hard to comprehend the amount of devotion and integrity that this man puts into his work. Such virtue of respectfulness, ownership and responsibility truly deserves acknowledgment and admiration.

Parijat Goswami Technology Creative Nominated by: Syed Taukir Imam

As per business requirement and boosting up daily sales, Robi Management, especially CMO wanted to circulate near real time SMS based sales notification to all the Area Managers, Regional Managers and Top Management in area wise, region wise and country wise activation. The previous system was not able to circulate near real time notification. All the teams involved for developing this kind of software also were not finding a way to develop such software to meet management requirement. Then Mr. Parijat Goswami took the challenge and demonstrating his creativity, he developed a system which was able to notify sales activation on bi-hourly basis. It was totally an out of scope work as it is not Parijats responsibility/KPI to develop such kind of software and he successfully did it. He was involved in the project to meet the business requirement and as the other concerned team was not able to find any solution. It took only two weeks to develop the whole system without any new Hardware or so. So it is the creative idea which actually made the differences. Robi is already getting benefit of the system as all the sales concerns and their supervisors up to CMO can track sales activities on near real time basis and they are feeling a competition among them to boost up sales.

Md. Monerul Islam Technology Respectful Nominated by: Hasan Md. Shaifuddin
This is a story of a respectful person who built an example of respect. This is a remarkable event that touched everyones heart. The story was captured in the month of May, 2012. An assigned driver of Robi named Shamim was suffering from Gangrene and there was a critical need to cut his leg. He almost gave us his service for more than 10 years. However, due to his physical condition he was unable to perform his job. At the end of his treatment, there was a critical need of a large sum of money for the major operation in his injured leg. Md. Sayedur Rahman Market Operations Ownership Nominated by: Melveen Fahimul Alam
Recently HR closed the Performance Improvement Plan for employees who received a 2 rating in the last PMS Cycle (1H 2011). The process was driven by the supervisors to ensure the development. In the case of Sayedur Rahman, he was very helpful towards the development of his subordinate. The employee has not been performing and had been receiving below 3 PMS rating for 4 cycles. Since initiating the PIP the employee, under the supervision of Sayedur was able to bring about a dramatic improvement in performance to a point where the individual had one of the highest score in Ready State and in October 2011 her contribution to MI was the highest. Quote from the PIP candidate regarding the employees support in her improvement - "I have been getting strong support from my management level with all areas. I am trying to build up good relation with all colleagues and continue to recover from personal family crisis." The PIP candidate was one of 15 employees who improved but Sayedur was one of 3 managers who were instrumental in the dramatic improvement of the employee they supervised.

Md. Taslimur Rahman Market Operations Ownership Nominated by: Melveen Fahimul Alam
Recently HR closed the Performance Improvement Plan for employees who received a 2 rating in the last PMS Cycle (1H 2011). The process was driven by the supervisors to ensure the development. After 2 consecutive 2 rating, Taslim is sure that the PIP candidate will improve and receive a 3 rating in 2H 2011. Quote from the PIP candidate regarding the employees support in her improvement - "....the situation has improved a lot from the last time. In many cases he has visited the client with me where the closing of the deal was in a stagnated stage and has helped me immensely to close deals. More so, he gave me the full credit of the achievement even though he had a lot of contribution and effort in closing the deals. Now i feel much more comfortable working under his leadership and have no complains."

Md. Shahidur Rahman Finance Passionate Nominated by: Ajoy Das

I recently read an interesting story in a blog which I feel like sharing with you all. Mr. Barbara & Gustav Myburgh were on the way to their wedding program. Friends & family were already waiting at the venue & waiting for the Bride & Groom to be arrived but they were delayed. With no real explanation the guest were waiting patiently for 45 minutes until the bride & groom were arrived. Well, it was not for a traffic jam! In fact what happened was, the bride & groom had observed that three gunman were holding a driver to a gun point. With the bride dressed in her white gown and the groom in his smart suit, they confronted the hijackers - who jumped into a truck and fled. The bride and groom chased after the hijackers and eventually caught up with and arrested the gunmen. What makes this story an inspiring one is that both the bride and the groom are law enforcement officers in the Johannesburg police force. They had a difficult choice to make, carry on and continue to the church to get married or deal with the gunmen. This is an example of a different type of employee who comes to work to fulfill a personal mission. They derive personal meaning and fulfillment from work not merely a salary or what they are supposed to do as per JD. Now the question is? Do we have such example here in Robi? I believe yes we have & may be we have many but the employee Im delighted to talk about is Mr. Md. Shahidur Rahman; ID # 671 who works for Risk Management & Insurance under FCIPI department Finance. He is not only loaded with his regular task of Insurance & Risk Management unit his consistent supportive contribution has now become a major contribution for the whole Compliance team. When there was no Company Secretary, his single handed contribution towards 55th Board Meeting & simultaneously the 56th Board meeting preparation under the supervision of CFO was a set example for his passion towards work & commitment to the company which is beyond his Job Description. In addition, his

great contribution to the Finance Compliance unit is beyond his JD of Insurance & Risk Mgt unit. From simple compliance checking to complex testing of overall internal control is beyond the written work scope and exemplifies the true spirit of taking ownership beyond boundary. Im amazed by this true example of someone going beyond his JD & serving with a smiley face. In todays business world employees are its most valuable resource. Its not only the product that always matters for success as long as a company has its best people. Thus, I would like to nominate Mr. Md. Shahidur Rahman as the most passionate employee.

Md. Tanvir Hossain Khan Finance Passionate Nominated by: F.M Fazle Karim
There was an instruction from BTRC that no prepaid subscriber should have balance more than 5,000BDT. This was not noticed by technology compliance, audit or any other department where Tanvir from Fraud Management Department identified this fact & reported detected subscribers those who exceeds 5,000BDT to CRL, Technology & Management. On the basis of this robi implemented a threshold of 5,000BDT for all prepaid subscribers by engaging Huawei. BTRC has a plan to conduct an audit to robi where this violation could have ended with huge penalty from BTRC to robi.

Md. Sadiqul Islam Technology Passionate Nominated by: Mohammad Monzurul Hasan
Technology evolves over time. So is our IN to OCS. A telco like Robi is driven by data. Migration to OCS involves changes in data structure. This required a new project to develop a process for this change to support existing business data which involves time. But there is no scope to wait which hampers the current business process. Here comes the benevolence of Md. Sadiqul Islam. He thought of some process that would not affect the end process. Rather it'd take OCS data as input parameters, do some mediation processing and output as IN data. He shared the idea to corresponding stakeholder. They liked it, but could not take the project by themselves. Then Sadique himself took in charge of that. Under his adroit supervision, this change management has been accomplished perfectly. Not only this, some of the flaws of OCS has been identified by him through the course of this project. These flaws were later corrected by the vendor. Now OCS has gone live with its accuracy and improved features. He is a person who delves himself into the system early in the morning after his morning prayer, monitoring processes for error and recovery so that all other stakeholders who are dependent on data for starting the office day avails it in time. Delay is tolerable in this case, but the man bearing that sense of ownership is reluctant to go in that way. There are numerous examples where other team got benefited from his knowledge sharing and extra effort beyond his work scope. It is his sense of ownership which hunts him round the clock thriving for an extra mile.
