We offer a complete study in the classic disciplines of manual photography including basic mechanics, ash use, composition, portraits, studio, landscapes, black and white, design, sculpting with light and more. Times, dates and locations of classes and workshops vary; morning, evening and weekend sessions are often available.

Manual digital photography is not hard or complicated, it's just misunderstood. Our Philosophy The San Diego In Focus Learning Center offers a practical approach to modern digital photography and becoming a true artist with your camera. Our classes, workshops and lectures blend traditional values, classic techniques and time-tested strategies with the cutting-edge technology you already own. We show our students how to create fantastic images in-camera with little to no need for after-the-fact manipulation. Whether you are new to digital SLR photography, a serious hobbyist or a professional looking to hone your manual skills, we've got a manual class, workshop or lecture for you. Our Courses We believe in the hands-on approach and learning while in the eld. Our courses are offered at various San Diego locations. Each class has a strict enrollment cap. We offer basic, advanced and specialty courses covering such iconic genres as portraits, landscapes, macro and black and white photography.

Youll be introduced to a variety of in-camera and on-the-lens lters to better grow your vision and be shown how to incorporate your ash into the design of a dramatic evening landscape (or portrait) image. Sometimes to see forward, we must look back. Join us for three amazing sessions as we pay homage to the great visionaries of the past. Learn to use classic lighting techniques from the renaissance period in your photography today.

Chiaroscuro is an italian term that quite literally means 'light-dark'. In classic renaissance paintings it refers to the technique of using strong tonal contrasts to separate a subject (or intent) from its surroundings. In modern photography it means dramatic and purposeful lighting. In this brand new three session course we'll show you how to create chiaroscuro lighting in your images with and without the use of a ash. We'll teach you to visualize like the artists of old, to compose an image that sings of the approach and to use your ash and natural light to paint like a renaissance master.
