CDMA Modules

1. Q: How many frequency bands could CDMA modules be applied, and what are these frequency bands? A: 4 frequency bands. 450M, 800M, sec. 800M, and 1.9G.

2. Q: On what platform can CDMA modules be used? A: ZTEs CDMA modules adopt QUALCOMM chip, and currently there are two platforms available, 5105 and 6025.

3. Q: What are the differences between the normal CDMA modules and GoTaCDMA modules? A: PTT function. GoTaCDMA modules have PTT function, while normal CDMA modules dont.

4. Q: What is the max. baud rate of the normal CDMA modules? A: 230400bps. The serial port on PC motherboard doesnt support 230400bps, if the baud rate of the module is changed in order to adapt to PCs serial port, then it might cause the failure of communication or the baud rate cant be changed to the original setting. It works well if the high-speed port is used to connect with USB port on PC.

5. Q: What is the default baud rate of CDMA modules? Is it adjustable? How do we adjust it? A: The default baud rate is 115200bps. We could adjust the baud rate through AT command: AT+IPR=<baud rate>. For details, please refer to <AT Command User Manual of ZTE Corporations CDMA Modules>.

6. Q: Is it possible to change the frequency point of CDMA modules? How do we change it? A: Yes. We could change it with PST.

7. Q: Is it possible to change the frequency band of CDMA modules? A: The frequency band of CDMA modules cant be changed because it is determined by RF hardware. However, MG803 is an exception. Its baud rate could be changed through AT command and it supports 800M and sec. 800M.

8. Q: How do we differentiate the CDMA modules with UIM card from those without UIM card? A: On 5105 platform, we differentiate through the software; on 6025 platform, CDMA modules have self-adaptive feature.

9. Q: What is the ripple for CDMA modules when they are supplied? A: About 50mV.

10. Q: How many serial port cables do we need when using CDMA module as MODEM? Which cables are they? A: At least three cables TX, RX, and GND.

11. Q: Do we still need ESD protection circuit when using CDMA modules for second development? A: Please add ESD circuit if the modules frequently contact lighting or other components.

12. Q: How do we design the power supply circuit of UIM card when using CDMA modules for second development? Could we directly use V_MSM to supply UIM card? A: No. We can refer to the circuit design of corresponding test board.

13. Q: What is the specification of the antenna used for CDMA modules? A: Yes, the antenna specification is mainly about the port impedance feature and interfaces. For details, please refer to <Hardware Design User Manual for ZTE Corporations MG815+ Modules>. We could provide the accompanying antenna to users.

14. Q: How do we handle with the redundant pins when designing the hardware? A: We will suspend those redundant pins except for GND

15. Q: What is the level of the serial port signal of CDMA modules? A: Its recommended to be 2.85V. For details, please refer to <Hardware Design User Manual for ZTE Corporations MG815+ Modules>

16. Q: Are there any requirements on the time sequence when supplying CDMA modules? A: Yes. For details, please refer to <Hardware Design User Manual for ZTE Corporations MG815+ Modules>

17. Q: Can we restart the module through ON/OFF pin if the screen of death occurs during the operation? A: No.

18. Q: Can we use the development board and CDMA module as a wireless MODEM? A: Yes. For detailed setting, please refer to the corresponding technical documents.

19. Q: How do the LEDs on the development board of CDMA modules work? Which pins are there?

CDMA Modules

A: This problem is regarding CDMA module on 6025 platform and it requires the support from the software. Different software versions vary differently. For details please consult technical staff. GPIO18Always ON. GPIO42Light on, Turn off and keep it for about 200ms after receiving the message. GPIO47Network status LED. Blink for 500ms in idle state, blink for 100ms in traffic state (in voice call or data service); turn on for 50ms when failing in capturing pilot signal, and turn off when initializing the network

20. Q: Is there any message sent prompt after the modules transmit the short messages successfully? A: Yes, there is. For details, please refer to the descriptions about CDS in <AT Command User Manual of ZTE Corporations CDMA Modules>. Its noted that, the message sent prompt only means successfully sent to BS instead of the recipient.

21. Q: Is the length setting in the command valid when CDMA module transmits a message through AT+CMGS command? A: It is valid. If we dont set the length parameter, (CTRL+Z) indicates ending command; if we set the length parameter, the message containing the length parameter will automatically send out, or wait for the parameters to be completely entered before it sends out. At this point, (CTRL+Z) doesnt indicate ending command; Currently the maximum text length is 160 characters. As the text length is more than 160 and less than 256, it will report the wrong information; if the length is more than 256, we will choose arithmetical compliment divided by 256 as the length; if the length is zero, we will think there is no length setting.

22. Q: Can CDMA module communicate with the server through different ports via TCP or UDP? A: Yes. According to the testing, we could send/receive short messages through different ports. If the communication is established through only one port, please contact your local operator.

23. Q: Do we have to use the fixed port number of 32768 when transmitting data via UDP? A: No. The port number for CDMA modules is dynamically changed, and it increases or decreases circularly from 32768 every time after the start-up.

24. Q: How do we transmit UDP data from the external computers to CDMA modules? A: Firstly transmit to PDSN, then from PDSN to CDMA module. Since the public network IP address is selected for CDMA modules, no routing problems occur.

CDMA Modules

25. Q: Can we access the IP address inquired by CDMA module in public network after UDP connection is establish? A: Yes, we can.

26. Q: Does CDMA module have monitoring function when TCP connection is established? A: No.

27. Q: Can CDMA modules receive/send short messages, or receive/make phone calls when performing data services through internal protocol stack? A: Yes.

28. Q: Can we receive/send short messages, or receive/make phone calls when performing data services through external protocol stack, A: We cant send short messages and make phone calls because the port is being occupied and AT operation isnt allowed through external protocol stack. We could receive but not view short messages. If the voice call has higher priority than data service, then we could receive the phone call; otherwise, we cant.

29. Q: What is the maximum number of bytes for CDMA modules during the data transmission through internal protocol stack? A: 1024.

30. Q: Could CDMA modules support sleep function during data service? How do we realize the function? A: Yes, CDMA modules support sleep function. For details, please refer to [AT+VKLSTATUS] in <AT Command User Manual of ZTE Corporations CDMA Modules>. After sleep function is activated, we could deactivate the function by using AT command or transmitting/receiving data.

31. Q: Do CDMA modules support ASYN data? A: Yes. Please refer to the relevant technical documents for details.

32. Q: CDMA modules could communicate with PC through serial port. ERROR always returns as we input most AT commands. Only for few AT commands, the correct information returns. How do we handle with this problem? A: There are two kinds of software versions for CDMA modules on 5105 platform, built-in UIM/R-UIM. For version with R-UIM, we need insert UIM card before executing AT command properly. In this case,

CDMA Modules

please insert UIM card before using CDMA modules.

33. Q: ERROR returns as we input the corresponding AT command for editing CDMA module contacts. How do we solve the problem? A: After CDMA module is restarted every time, its not allowed to edit the contacts (Default). Please execute the command: AT+ZAIP=0 before editing the contacts. For details, please refer to <AT Command User Manual of ZTE Corporations CDMA Modules>.

34. Q: How many records could be saved in each catalog [missed call history], [outgoing call history] and [incoming call history] of CDMA modules? A: We could save a maximum of 10 records in each catalog. Its noted that all records will be deleted in the catalog when deleting call history. For details, please refer to <AT Command User Manual of ZTE Corporations CDMA Modules>.

35. Q: How do we normally turn off CDMA module? A: Use AT command: AT+ZPWROFF to normally turn off the module. For details, please refer to <AT Command User Manual of ZTE Corporations CDMA Modules>.

36. Q: Are there any CDMA modules with built-in UIM and multiple numbers? A: Yes, CDMA modules on 5105 platform.

37. Q: What prompt will be there if one of the numbers is busy and we dial other numbers when selecting CDMA modules with built-in UIM and multiple numbers? A: In this case, we should be prompted with this number is unable to connect. If the number we call is being dialed or ringing, we should be prompted with the subscriber you are dialing is busy right now. No setting is required because it is automatically recognizable by the network.

38. Q: Does CDMA modules provide ESN? A: Yes. For details, please contact the technical staff.

39. Q: Can we send/receive short messages when selecting CDMA modules with built-in UIM and multiple numbers? A: We could send but not receive short messages.

40. Q: What shall we do if the device using CDMA modules with built-in UIM and multiple numbers can make

CDMA Modules

but not receive a call (it prompts with the device will turn off if you receive the call) after it is used for a period of time? A: Firstly separate IMSI with different carrier frequencies using arithmetic, and secondly perform network registration once using AT command every 30 minutes. For details, please consult the relevant technical staff.
