Awards and accolades such as the Business World-FICCI-SEDF 2006 award for Best Corporate Citizenand the TERI Corporate Award 2006-2007, stand testimony to our commitment to make a positive difference to the society. The Foundation has chapters in Hyderabad (Head Quarters), Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar and Chennai. The Foundation focuses its activities in the core areas of Education, Livelihoods, Health (Blood Donation Camps), Empowering Persons with Disability, and Disaster Management.
Education
The Education program works with students of government schools, to improve the quality of education, to bring about a decrease in school dropout rates, increase pass percentage through various interventions such as Notebook and Study Material Distribution, Motivational Tours, KidSmart Centers, Infrastructure Support, Summer Camps, Awareness Programs on Health and Environment, regular mentoring by Mahindra Satyam volunteers who teach English, Mathematics, Science, and basic Computer skills.
Livelihood
The Livelihood program of Mahindra Satyam Foundation believes in enabling individual capacities. An individual or an organization is modeled around specific skills and practical knowledge. Our policy recognizes the fact that by providing skills to the underprivileged individual, we add value to the individual as well as job markets. Our initiatives urge the need to maximize the potential of under privileged people and instill confidence so they can compete in emerging job markets. Livelihood Program Initiatives speak for themselves. The initiatives focus on increasing individual skills. We believe that in enabling an individual we
can create confident and skilled workers. Livelihood Program is deeply experienced in identifying the needs of underprivileged people and transferring appropriate skills
Key Achievements:

Every day the children were engaged in different interesting activities and games (indoor and outdoor). The KidSmart Early Learning Center was a huge success with the children as it gave them an opportunity to acquaint themselves with computers and learn to operate them all the while absorbing knowledge (vocabulary, math and spelling). They were also taught various crafts, chess, tennikoit, volleyball, caroms and other outdoor games like Kho Kho, football etc. The highlight of the camp was the magic show by Ravi Chandra, a hearing impaired magician who enthralled the children with his fascinating magic acts. He also patiently taught the children a couple of tricks. On 12th May, a session on the services of EMRI and a live demo of 108 Ambulance was organized in the school play ground. Paramedics explained the importance of emergency services, how to summon the ambulance, the importance of saving lives during the golden hour etc. The Summer Camp was unique as the children attending it came from diverse backgrounds. While children from government and private schools participated, a majority of the children came from underprivileged sections of the community. The parents of the children also participated in the camps and were delighted that their children could spend their summer vacations in a productive way. Most of the parents were working as domestic servants, auto drivers, security, daily laborers, coconut and fruit vendors. The camp culminated with a splendid valedictory function on Saturday, 28th May 2011. C.V.N. Varma, Regional Manager (Corporate Services), Mahindra Satyam and Mr. Suresh Mohanthy, Deputy Inspector of Schools, Dept. of Education were chief guests for the valedictory function.
All the craft items made by the children were exhibited and parents were sensitized on various activities the children were involved during the camp. Children performed songs, dances, recited rhymes and put up a puppet show with a moral story. Akash was the happiest child of the lot as his birthday was celebrated which was special for him, as he never had a birthday celebration before. C.V.N. Varma interacted with the children and urged them to study well, as education is what helps one to reach goals. He also stressed the importance of setting goals in life and only hard work will lead to success. Suresh Mohanthy, Deputy Inspector of Schools, appreciated the initiatives taken up by
Mahindra Satyam Foundation for the poor children of under privileged sections. He said summer camps help the children to utilize their time properly during the vacations. Children need a platform to exhibit their talent and innovative ideas. Token gifts were given to all the children. Four volunteers from Mahindra Satyam Vinay Prabhu, Veeresh Kumar, Divya Shah and Harikrishna Rachuri spent time with the children during the camp and involved them in various activities. Two volunteers from IBM Ashok Gandi, Project Manager and K. S. Raghupathi, Program Manager from IBM also participated in the camp, apart from family volunteers.
This is the first event to be conducted under the aegis of Vizag Leadership Council headed by Ravi Eswarapu in creating a collaborative CSR effort with local IT/ITeS corporate and academic institutions.
Volunteering@ Pune
Mahindra Satyam Associates have been volunteering at Deep Griha Society in Pune and teaching the students English vocabulary and grammar. The students were given a task of learning at least 35 words each from the dictionary every week and each candidate was asked to tell five words along with the meaning. The candidates were also asked to prepare a short essay on an individual who is considered as their idol, and read the essay in the class. The candidates wrote their essays after researching on the internet. For the next week, five topics were decided and to conduct role play on the topics. The topics were Hospitals, Malls, Banks, Sales Person and Call centre. The idea behind this exercise was to teach the candidates on how to deal with customers, the etiquette on telephone conversation etc. The candidates were divided into groups for this exercise with a
Mahindra Satyam Foundation participates in Mahindra Satyams Customer Visit and Customer Audit
On May 16, 2011, the Foundation team Srinivas Kidambi and Alfina Prabhakaran were present for the BASF CIO visit to Mahindra Satyam Offices at Chennai. On 30 May, V C Kumar and Srinivas Kidambi were present at the KMDs ( Denmark) Customer Audit. During both the visits, the Foundations activities were present to the visiting dignitaries. The efforts and the activities of the Foundation were appreciated by both the teams.
Ms. Shameem, English Faculty at the IT School, Hyderabad said she was glad she could attend the training. She found the teaching methodology and the learning material of Yuva English very effective. Post training, she now finds teaching English to students more enjoyable. Ms. Neela Devi, English Faculty at IT School, Bangalore who also attended the CLR Training in Pune, finds the modules easy to teach. She is able to involve the students actively in the process of learning English. The feedback about the course from the students was very positive. The students attended the classes regularly as found the Yuva English course interesting and enjoyable as they could now understand the audio script well. They were also able to improve their communication skills through Group activities, Role play and Game activities. To date, a total of 68 students from 3 Mahindra Satyam Foundation IT Schools have undergone this course and all of them felt they have benefitted from the course. All the students are now confident of facing interviews and conversing in English.
Twelve Mahindra Satyam associates volunteered for the event and were actively involved in organizing the event. More than 1,500 senior citizens gathered at the event. Volunteers were very happy that they could assist the elderly.
Environment initiatives
Turtle walk @ Chennai: 10 volunteers from Mahindra Satyam and 15 volunteers from Tech Mahindra took part in the turtle walk organized by the Tree Foundation on 19 February 2010. This initiative was started to with the motive to conserve the endangered Olive Ridley- Sea-turtles along the Chennai coast. This activity has today grown into a multifunctional voluntary organization. Go Green initiative @ Bhubaneswar: Mahindra Satyam Foundation together with the HR unit of Mahindra Satyam organized a cleanliness drive in Mahindra Satyam Bhubaneswar premises. 60 associates took part in the drive which was divided into Internal Cleanliness covering workstation/cubicle/floor and External Cleanliness covering the office premises. Enthusiastic associates designed posters, cleaned the premises thoroughly and came up with a list of dos and donts to be followed
in attendance to support and assist the candidates in myriad ways; escorting them to the venue, help them fill the application forms, guide them to the relevant HR, act as interpreters, serve water to the candidates and their escorts etc. Candidates along with the application forms were sent for assessment by HRs from TCS, Mahindra Satyam and GE. The assessment was primarily focused to check the communication skills and skill set of Persons with Disability and counsel them about the opportunities available to them.
Volunteering

Volunteering coupled with technology, the two key differentiators of the Foundation, are used to tackle the various social disparities plaguing our society, with consistent positive outcomes. Mahindra Satyam Foundation carries out its programs primarily through Mahindra Satyam Volunteers, following a three tier Pyramid model:
A base of large number of volunteer-driven events: Large number of volunteers (requiring generic skill, small time-commitment , one-time volunteering also fits in) A narrower next level of activities: Higher volunteer engagement (specific skill, longer time duration , ongoing): Magnificent seven (M 7) volunteers and full time volunteering A top-level of advocacy for right causes at right places, using Mahindra Satyam strengths
Satyam associates started visiting the Home there has been a tremendous improvement in the childrens outlook towards life. They aspire to be better individuals and look at life with less bitterness.
