3 PROPOSAL2012 LATI Project: Mobile Vehicle Patron ECommunication The Outreach Department at the Carroll County Public Library has an organizational need in the area of specific communication to our S.E. patrons: family daycare providers, pre-K teachers, and LFI Teachers. The target audience is specifically the 170 patrons whom we visit every 4 weeks with our Early Learning Mobile Services. Regular publicity of programs and events is offered in our magazine the CCPL Currents and on the CCPL website. The vehicles follow the county school closing policy and patrons know to listen to these public courtesy announcements on local TV and radio in inclement weather. Once in a while there are extenuating circumstances like a high wind advisory or vehicle break down that require immediate patron contact. We currently call the patrons individually. We would like to develop a vehicle of communication designed just for OUR 170 patrons. This would facilitate communicating to multiple patrons time sensitive messages about their mobile services. It could also be used for program awareness and professional development, like educational sound bytes, child care tips, and emergent literacy tips. Recently, a new position in IT/ER was created to facilitate library social network and e-communications. April Wisenhand will be able to advise us on this project. Eventually, we see it as a good communication system for keeping our patrons up to date on service, a place of idea sharing, bulletin board for learning opportunities and resources. The e-tool we are considering is use of the social network Facebook. We have collected email addresses for the majority of the patrons. The next task is to consolidate the email addresses into a list where we can send out group e-mails to our patrons. We want to develop a Facebook page, strictly for our patrons who are visited by the Storytime Express Vehicles, as a private page that each patron will be invited to join. Ideally we want to group them by the vehicle and day of visit. Other steps in the process will be: to manage our Facebook page all Outreach LA's must be Administrators to have access in order to update the page with timely information, post schedule changes due to weather conditions, post pictures, and answer any questions a patron may have posted. If a patron does not choose to use Facebook we will have to consider options, like communicate with them via e-mail only. A possibility would be to create an SE patron group in Outlook. Evaluating this method, will be an ongoing task. At each of our monthly Outreach Meetings we will discuss how it is working, what could be done better or differently, is it user friendly, do our patrons use it, do they like it and are we keeping it updated in a timely manner?

This future program fits well into our library's mission as we are leading the way to lifelong learning and enjoyment, CCPL will embrace a culture of
change, and improve technologies to make the library user-friendly.

Yes, our department actually intends to implement this program to our patrons in Outreach Services.

Press Release is a little different as it really is an invitation for our Storytime Express patrons to join our E-Communication. The press release is below.
