(D). Impact of the technologies/ products:

Conservation of fuels = 2.0 Million ton of firewood equivalent / Year, worth Rs. 200/- Crores / Year through energy efficient devices. More than 500 million lit/day through TERAFIL Water Purification Technology.

Drinking water supply Agriculture productivity

= Excess yield of 75,000 tons/year food grains due to reduction of grain loss in crop residues by the Agro-machineries. = Nearly 3.0 Million man days / year created for production & use of the products. Stop emitting 2.0 million tons of CO2 & 0.4 million tons of CO gases every year, besides smoke & pollution significantly, in rural households through energy efficient devices. Health hazard and drudgery of women and children are reduced in rural sector. Quality of life of common people are improved through use of rural technology products. A large numbers of MSMEs are created/ revived for production of Rural Technology devices and conversion of natural resources into value added products in the country.

III. SCIENTIFIC CONTRIBUTIONS: 1.

Rural Technology for societal benefits:

Research & Development undertaken by the undersigned for invention/ development of need based low cost & efficient technologies in the field of renewable energy, drinking water, agro-machineries, non-farm sector, artisan technology and equipment development to enhance energy efficiency & productivity, reduce of pollution & drudgery and generate employment & improve quality of life to obtain economic, environmental & societal benefits to people of the country.

Most of the technologies developed by the undersigned converted to commercial products, which are produced & marketed by MSMEs through various National programme of State & Govt of India in different states.

The undersigned has rendered extensive post R&D trainings & demonstrations on mass production, use, maintenance and awareness for rapid dissemination of the technologies. The beneficiaries were policy makers, Govt officials, field engineers & technicians, entrepreneurs, MSMEs, NGOs, SHGs, artisans, rural youths, farmers, housewives etc.

The undersigned has provided necessary scientific & technical supports to different Ministries of Central & State Govts as member of various committees during extensive dissemination of the technologies under many National programme. The undersigned was pioneer for creation of Rural Technology Department in CSIRMMT, Bhubaneswar to meet present demands of the country.

Notable Rural Technology products developed & commercialized:

1. Low cost Paddy Thresher. 2. Low cost Paddy Thresher - cum - Winnower. 3. Semi - automatic Pulse Thresher- cum- Winnower 4. Fully automatic Pulse Thresher- cum- Winnower 5. Multi-purpose Grain Winnower. 6. Multi-purpose mincing machine 7. Coal / wood fired energy efficient downdraft pottery Kiln. 8. Energy efficient multi-fuel cook stoves (portable & fixed- 06 designs) 9. Energy efficient biomass fixed chulhas (with & without chimney- 16 designs) 10.Multi-purpose biomass operated Bukhari (stove- cum -space heater) 11.Multi-purpose biomass operated Oven for stoving of paints. 12.Multi-purpose Biomass operated Drier. 13.Low cost coal fired pot furnace for melting Brass & Bell metal. 14.Low cost TERAFIL domestic Water Filters (Point-of-Use)

Page No. : 22

15.TERAFIL stand-alone water purification plants 16.TERAFIL Pressure flow on-line water purifiers 17.TERAFIL Community water purification plants 18.Low cost biomass fired Bakery Oven 19.Low cost Glazing of Terracotta 20.Energy efficient biomass fired Cardamom dryer 21.Biomethanation plant for generation of high methane rich biogas from soiled vegetables.

Tentative benefits obtained from Rural Technologies:

(a) Conservation of fuels (c) Productivity in Agriculture (d) Employment generation (e) Green house gas reduction : 2 million ton / year firewood equivalent : Excess yield of 75,000 ton paddy / year : 3 million man days / year : 2 million tons / year (b) Drinking water through TERAFIL : More than 500 million liter / day.

Industrial Technology:

Advanced coal fired furnaces developed by the undersigned for replacement of petroleum oil by coal in various metallurgical, chemical & mineral industries to maximize economy due to increase in cost of furnace oil. Novelty of coal fired furnaces are use of lump coal, rapid & complete combustion of fuel with reduced pollution, easy operation, low cost and suitable for continuous & batch operation. Advanced Jet pump with flat jet developed by the undersigned for solid-liquid mixing & pumping slurry without rotary parts in desired high pressure & solid concentration. It replaces conventional slurry pump & agitator in hydraulic transportation & maximizes economy.

Notable Technology developed for Industrial benefits:

(1). High temperature coal fired Cyclone Combustor. (2). Rectangular - Jet Slurry Pump. (3). Continuous billet reheating coal fired furnace replacing furnace oil. (4). Coal fired furnace for sintering Ore & Minerals. (5). 75 TPH iron ore crushing and screening plant. (6). Coal fired furnace for annealing of cast iron spun pipe replacing furnace oil.
