In many musical examples, the above 26 rudiments may be found written with altered accents and rhythms to enhance the artistry of a particular composer's work; however, the examples will still be drawn from the rudiments above. When performing isolated rudiments, as in a n audition or a contest, it is common practice for the chosen rudiment to be played from slow to fast to slow using gradual accelerandos and decelerandos.
