Period 3:
Date of preparation: 20/08/2012 Class of teaching: 12A7, 12A12 Aims and objectives: - To help Ss review the tenses: Present perfect and present perfect continuous

- To have them do some kinds of exercises about this point. - To educate them to learn better. Content of the lesson: I THEORY: 1. The Present Perfect a. Form: - Affirmative: S + have/has+ PP - Negative: S + have/has + not + pp - Interrogative: Have / Has + S + pp? b. Usage: action that puts emphasis on the result . Example: She has written five letters. action that is still going on Example: School has not started yet. action that stopped recently Example: She has cooked dinner. finished action that has an influence on the present Example: I have lost my key. action that has taken place once, never or several times before the moment of speaking Example: I have never been to Australia. 2. The Present Progressive Tense a. Form: S + has/have + been + present participle Examples:

You have been waiting here for two hours. Have you been waiting here for two hours? You have not been waiting here for two hours.

b. Usage: We use the Present Perfect Continuous to show that something started in the past and has continued up until now. "For five minutes," "for two weeks," and "since Tuesday" are all durations which can be used with the Present Perfect Continuous. Examples:

They have been talking for the last hour. She has been working at that company for three years. What have you been doing for the last 30 minutes? James has been teaching at the university since June. We have been waiting here for over two hours! Why has Nancy not been taking her medicine for the last three days?

We can also use the Present Perfect Continuous WITHOUT a duration such as "for two weeks." Without the duration, the tense has a more general meaning of "lately." We often use the words "lately" or "recently" to emphasize this meaning. Examples:

Recently, I have been feeling really tired. She has been watching too much television lately. Have you been exercising lately? Mary has been feeling a little depressed.

Lisa has not been practicing her English. What have you been doing?

II - EXERCISES: Using the words in parentheses, complete the text below with the appropriate tenses, then click the "Check" button to check your answers. 1. I (see) .many pictures of the pyramids before I went to Egypt. Pictures of the monuments are very misleading. The pyramids are actually quite small. 5. Sarah (climb) .the Matterhorn, (sail) .around the world, and (go) .on safari in Kenya. She is such an adventurous person. 6. FORM Be Going To Examples:

[am/is/are + going to + verb]

You are going to meet Jane tonight. Are you going to meet Jane tonight? You are not going to meet Jane tonight.

b. Usage:We use the simple future tense when there is no plan or decision to do something before we speak. We make the decision spontaneously at the time of speaking. Look at these examples:

Hold on. I'll get a pen. We will see what we can do to help you. Maybe we'll stay in and watch television tonight.

In these examples, we had no firm plan before speaking. The decision is made at the time of speaking. We often use the simple future tense with the verb to think before it:

I think I'll go to the gym tomorrow. I think I will have a holiday next year. I don't think I'll buy that car.

Prediction We often use the simple future tense to make a prediction about the future. Again, there is no firm plan. We are saying what we think will happen. Here are some examples:

It will rain tomorrow. People won't go to Jupiter before the 22nd century. Who do you think will get the job?

Be When the main verb is be, we can use the simple future tense even if we have a firm plan or decision before speaking. Examples:

I'll be in London tomorrow. I'm going shopping. I won't be very long. Will you be at work tomorrow? II-
