Making Disciples of All Nations

Our Story

In 1980, First Baptist Church of Memphis recognized a need to minister to the growing population of Lao refugees in Memphis. This ministry culminated into the birth of First Lao Baptist Church. The founding pastor, Phimphone Phetvixay, faithfully served the community for almost thirty years until the Lord called His good and faithful servant home to heaven.
In 2007, Thi Mitsamphanh continued the ministry started by Pastor Phetvixay and took it in a new direction. In 2010, First Lao Baptist Church became First International Baptist Church to be reective of the churchs multi-ethnic and multilingual makeup. FIBC strives to make disciples of Jesus Christ among all peoples in Memphis.

Ministry

We believe the Lord has brought the nations to our city and the Scriptures exhort us to welcome the stranger and love our neighbor (Mt. 25:35; Luke 10:27). By doing so we take part in the Great Commission (Mt 28:18-20).
First International Baptist Church ministers to the refugee and immigrant community through resettlement assistance and mercy ministries. We strive to show the love of Jesus and share the message of Jesus. Many members of FIBC have been refugees themselves and understand the experience of starting a new life in a strange land. FIBC reaches out to families by providing physical needs as well as open arms of love and acceptance. Most importantly, we want to see people become followers of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Core Values
Glory of God Ultimately, we exist for the glory of God among the nations (Psalm 96:3) Gospel-Centered Everything we do centers on the completed work of Jesus Christ in his life, death, burial, and resurrection (1 Cor 15:1-4)

Who we are

Compassion We strive to love God whole-heartedly and love others sacricially (James 1:27, 2:16) Fellowship We are committed to breaking bread together and doing life together (Acts 2:44-47) Missions We believe the Gospel message should be proclaimed among the nations (Mark 13:10)

First International Baptist Church was birthed in 2010. Our vision is to see the nations worship and glorify God. Our mission is to make disciples of all nations in Memphis and around the world.
