THOUGHTS FROM BRAD

This is the third article, in a series of six, which speaks to the core values of the Fifth Avenue Church of Christ. Today I share about the value: Global Evangelism. At FACC, the leadership wants YOU to understand that every member and attender should accept the call to take the Gospel to every creature (Mt. 28:19-20). During one sermon series over the past few years, you were challenged to reach across, the aisle, down the street and around the world. You will continually hear us lay down this challenge to you. May we have an attitude of Acts 20:27 which says, For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God. What a great privilege it is to share our faith with another. This winter, I encourage you to take part in the following nights of small groups that I lead Beginning January 15-Mens Fraternity in the Fellowship Hall from 6:30-7:45 p.m. (Meets 1st & 3rd Tuesday of each month) Beginning January 27- Small group @ Huffmans from 6:00-7:30 p.m. (Meets every Sunday night) Beginning January 29th- Small group in our Prayer Room from 6:30-7:45 p.m. (Meeting the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month) Study info and sign-up sheets available today at our activities board in the coat room. SUNDAY EVENINGS IN THE SANCTUARY:

SCOTTS THOUGHTS
John 4:24 (NIV) For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth." I believe this scripture to be one of the foundational passages to accurate understanding of why and how we worship. There are a couple of key points I want to bring up here and we will revisit in detail over the next couple of weeks. If we want to worship God, this passage makes clear that we MUST worship in spirit and in truth. Much has been written about the meaning of spirit and truth and we will explore those concepts in coming articles. Focus for a moment on the imperative must. This is not optional or subject to preferences. If the object of our worship is God, worship must be done in spirit and truth. In the absence of spirit and truth, we worship something other than God. Satan is continually attempting to draw our worship away from God and into self, comfort, tradition, success, money, power and anything other than God. Lord, help us to fix our eyes on you, worship you only and worship you in spirit and truth, that you might receive the glory and honor you deserve.

This week (1/13) our series from II Corinthians continues. The theme will be Beware of Counterfeits (II Corinthians 11:1-15). On January 20, the title is Identifying the Committed Christian (II Corinthians 11:16-33). Three additional messages will complete this series. If you are not involved in a small group, on Sunday evenings, I encourage you to join us. Communion is available for those who desire. Also, remember that we now have activities for children each Sunday evening.
WEDNESDAYS: On January 9, we resumed

our midweek study groups. These first several weeks of 2013 we are examining the Epistle to the Ephesians. This is a chapter-bychapter and verse-by-verse study of this important New Testament book. Study questions will be provided. Remember, we meet at 10:00 am and 6:30 pm each week. The same material is covered in each session. Why not start the new year with us in one of these study groups?
FINAL THOUGHT: Picture a husband and

wife walking in the mall. She takes his hand. He says, Oh, you dont want to lose me? She says, I dont want to have to look for you!

I asked the kids to create something tangible for me using only their voices. Surprisingly, they couldnt! But God can, and did, and created the entire world in less than a week! God can do amazing things, things that we could never fathom doing on our own. Genesis 1 *Winter Jam Mini next Friday!! All kids k-5th are invited to this fun get-together from 7:00-8:00!! For Your Information

As we move into the new year, we thought it might be good to remind our church family of the working schedule for all our church staff. Do recognize that all these schedules are the normal or preferred hours. However, there is little that is normal about church staff hours. We all flex according to need. Brad Seevers, our Senior Minister, and only full-time employee, is generally available Monday through Thursday, 9-5 and Saturday. He is available, in the office, unless circumstances require hospital or other urgent visitation, etc. He, generally, takes Fridays off. (He, of course, works Sundays.) Dave Tingler is our Associate Minister and works parttime. His specialty is a ministry to seniors. Generally, you may find him in the office on Mondays and Wednesdays. In addition to his Sunday duties, he is available for necessary visitation, etc. on other days of the week. Scott Brown serves as our Minister of Outreach and Worship. His office hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (9-noon and 1-3 pm). He, also, flexes according to needs. Hannah Martin is our Director of Childrens Ministries. At present, Hannah is part-time and works on weekends. She arrives in town on Friday evenings and stays through the Sunday evening youth the childrens programs. She can usually be reached, in her office, on Saturday mornings. Debbi Hoagland is our Church Secretary. Debbi works part-time and is in the office on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (7am 3pm). Dale Thornton is our long-time Church Custodian and now works part-time. Dale is, generally, in the building Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10am to 4/6pm and on Saturdays from 2pm to 5/6pm. Like all our part-time employees, Dale is flexible and available for special needs. HOME COMMUNION If you are interested in being part of a schedule to take home communion to shut-ins on Sunday afternoons, please let Brad or Dave know, or contact the church office at 654-0626.

Core Values...
Values central to the life, mission and vision of Fifth Avenue Church of Christ are:

Sermon Notes ________________________

________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ _________________________________________ _____________________________________

Christ-Centered Worship
We make it a priority every Sunday to celebrate Jesus through our music. (Romans 11:36-12:1-2). We focus on Jesus through grace-based preaching and teaching & understand the Bible is our authority (2 Timothy 3:16).

Church Health and Biblical Balance

Church health becomes reality when God's people seek harmony & live consistently. We expect every member to protect the unity of Christ's Church. (Romans 12:16; 1 Peter 3:8)

Global Evangelism
We are constant to our founding call to worldwide evangelism, proclaiming to all that Jesus Christ is the Savior, Healer, and Soon-Coming King (Acts 20:27).

Fellowship and Ministry

After people begin their journey with Jesus, we will equip them to find a ministry based upon their strengths. We want everyone to serve in some capacity. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) We also want His church to be the living evidence of His love and power to the world.

How Can I Respond Today?

At FACC we look to the Bible for guidance on all issues. We believe that Gods Word is clear concerning what a person must do to become a Christian. Trust that Jesus can bring you to salvation. Turn (repent) from the sin in your life. Confess your desire to make Jesus the Lord of your life. Be baptized (immersed) in water for the forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy Spirit into your life. To make this life decision for Christ, we ask that you come forward during our commitment song at the conclusion of the Sunday message. Baptized believers are welcome to become members at FACC by coming forward on Sunday morning or by seeing our Senior Minister to discuss this further. We ask that you complete a series of Curious classes to help you better understand what you are committing to as a member.

Discipleship
We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change your lifestyle & your daily decisions.

Social Conscience
We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah 56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).
