Lisbon, a riverside city painted in watercolour shades, stretches along the river Tejo and much beyond these boundaries. A crowded and cosmopolitan city, whose warm people always make foreigners feel welcome, blends a century-old tradition with the modernity of a European capital. The old streets mingle with the wide and more recent avenues, with old and modern buildings existing harmoniously together in the same space. Let yourself be carried away by the sun, the people, the freshness of the vegetation, the river and you will know the city by taking a ride on a tramway, bus, train, boat, or simply walking, discovering an extremely rich secular and religious heritage with a large number of museums, churches and palaces. The visitor should not miss visiting the St. Georges Castle, the Hieronymite Monastery and the Tower of Belm. Lisbon offers a suggestive diversified programme of events of touristic and cultural interest shows, fairs and festivals, live shows and music on the streets and exhibitions, among others. Lisbon nights typically wind their way through old neighbourhoods with Fado houses, traditional and trendy bars, restaurants serving local food as well as contemporary or fusion cuisine prepared by famous chefs. Over the last two decades a large number of leisure and entertainment spots have taken over Avenida 24 de Julho, Santos, Alcntara, along with the riverside Quays, Lisbons hottest nightspot.

FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT

a Welcome Address
Dear Colleague, The 25th European Congress of Pathology (ECP 2013) will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, from 31 August to 4 September 2013. On behalf of the European Society of Pathology and the Portuguese Society of Pathology / Portuguese Division of the International Academy of Pathology we would like to invite you to join us in Lisbon. We will do our best to guarantee a valuable scientific, educational and social experience for all participants. The motto of the Congress Pathology: A gate to the future is symbolically represented by the Tower of Belm. The icon of the ECP 2013 is a monument close to the Congress Center that commemorates the voyage towards the unknown of the Portuguese navigators. Pathology, in addition to its traditional clinical problem solving role, is entering uncharted waters this notion is reflected in the scientific programme that may be summarised as an inclusive programme on Personalised Pathology. As you may know, the Lisbon Congress was initially coined the seven Ps Congress: Pathology after Prague; Prognosis; Predictive; Personalized; Portugal and Pleasure. The finalised social programme has expanded this number of Ps: a couple of exciting Parties, including a Sunset Rave Party (a premire in ESP Congresses), a Performance of choral music pieces from Portuguese speaking countries and a welcome ceremony devoted to FADO (it is a pity it is not written PHADO). We are looking forward to welcoming you and spending a great time in Lisbon.
