Learning Standards 7.

7. Analyze the extent to which a filmed or live production of a story or drama stays faithful to or departs from the text or script, evaluating the choices made by the director or actors. 7. Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of using different mediums (e.g., print or digital text, video, multimedia) to present a particular topic or idea. 4. Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. (Grade-specific expectations for writing types are defined in standards 13 above.) 6. Adapt speech to a variety of contexts and tasks, demonstrating command of formal English when indicated or appropriate. (See grade 8 Language standards 1 and 3 on page 52 for specific expectations.)

Monday Rm 292 and Rm 295 will review for their exams on Tuesday by playing Jeopardy and participating in a large class discussion. Rm 296 will begin reading Hugo. o 20 minute discussion explaining the format of Hugo and the history of the film industry o 60 minutes read Hugo together as a class stopping to discuss theme and characterization.

Tuesday Rm 292 and Rm 295 will take their unit exams on The Book Thief and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. Rm. 296 o Continue reading Hugo 40 minutes o Students will turn one of the picture sections of the book into text. -40 minutes

Wednesday Rm 292 and Rm 295 will watch The Boy in the Striped Pajamas to wrap up the Holocaust unit and they will write an essay about the movies portrayal of both the book and the Holocaust as a whole. Rm 296: o Powerpoint about Characterization. -20 minutes o Students will continue to read Hugo in class stopping every 10 minutes or so for class discussion. -60 minutes

Thursday

Rm 292: Students will create their own allegories to represent their lives. This activity assesses their knowledge of allegory. -80 minutes 295: Creative writing activity. Students will choose a photograph and write a story inspired by the photo. This activity will be used in the 8th grade newspaper. -80 minutes Rm. 296 o Students will finish reading Hugo -20 minutes o Student will watch the movie version of Hugo and write an essay on the novel message about movies and how the novel is able to capture this.

Friday Rm 292 and Rm 295: Finish creative writing project and present them to the class for a speaking and listening grade -80 minutes Rm 296: Finish watching Hugo and work on essay.
