Presentation Title
The four elements, water, earth, fire and air were central to the practices of the
early Naturopathic doctors to treat life threatening diseases prevalent in their day.
Today, we are faced with a different landscape of maladies yet the nature cure
therapies can still offer miraculous outcomes.
‘ND Burnout Syndrome’ is something that we don’t pay much attention to, much less
expect as even personally possible, until we hit the wall. But the reality is that
naturopathic doctors, like our fellow medical colleagues get exhausted and depleted in
their work as primary health care providers. Finding solutions for our patients is one
thing, but when we find ourselves in the hot seat as a patient, our need for care is vital.
‘Physician Heal Thyself’ is a process. It is a course and it is a retreat. The first annual
gathering will happen at Breitenbush Hot Springs in Oregon, July 3-5th, 2009. This hands-
on retreat will help doctors to get replenished physically, spiritually and mentally while
learning new and old naturopathic tools for continuing education credits. Our surveys tell
us that this resource is much needed. We need to feel alive as we ‘return to nature’ in
harmony with the ‘vis medicatrix naturae’. Our patients need their naturopathic doctors
to embody health and vitality. When we are fully present and attuned with the sapient
laws of nature, nothing can get in our way. The presentation features key elements of
the retreat, calling attention to the need and providing participants with the tools to
begin tomorrow.

Sussanna Czeranko ND, a naturopathic physician licensed in both Ontario, Canada and in
Oregon, has been practicing since 1994. Sussanna incorporates her strong interest in
‘nature-cure’ approaches to primary care by including Balneotherapy, Breathing therapy
and Halotherapy into her naturopathic practice. The Buteyko breathing therapy was
personally powerful for her, restoring health and vitality after a serious auto accident.
She is currently working on a project with colleague, Dr. Glen Nagel teaching a Nature
Cure program at NCNM and State ND associations on the power of Balneotherapy and
Herbs. She is presently researching and designing a curriculum and training program for
professional health care practitioners in Nature Cure and Balneotherapy modalities.
