Abaqus Installation Notes Configuration, verification and license manager issues (version 6.

6)
Introduction Abaqus has two components; the analysis code and Abaqus/CAE, which is the interactive pre- and postprocessing application for the Abaqus analysis programs. Abaqus/CAE is not available on the Central Applications Service (capps) but may be run on a desktop PC with the subsequent input files being submitted to the analysis code on capps. The output files may be transferred to the desktop for postprocessing. Regular users would benefit from having filespace on the central storage which may be shared between the desktop and the central servers; contact the helpdesk at http://www.helpdesk.bham.ac.uk for details. Both components are supplied on the installation CD, but only the licensed components can be used. For license management reasons, IS strongly recommend that userids used to run abaqus on the PC are the same as the campus-wide userids. It is also recommended that the name of the PC is the same as the first component of the IP name. Installing Abaqus Log on to the PC as a user with administrator privileges. If a local copy of the documentation is required this should be installed before installing the program, otherwise a central copy of the on-line manuals can be specified as described in the following notes. The CD should autorun and start the installation process; if not run the file setup.exe from the root folder on the CD. when prompted for the installation type select Product, not the default License specify the license servers as shown in the following screenshot:

where License server 1 is 27010@lic-server1.bham.ac.uk, Server 2 is 27010@lic-server2.bham.ac.uk and Server 3 is 27010@lic-server3.bham.ac.uk The installation process may report that these license servers cannot be found, depending on the network connections between the PC and the license servers. If this happens then ignore this and continue the installation. You are then prompted for the URL for the ABAQUS documentation. Specify http://capps.bham.ac.uk:2080/v6.6/ as shown in the following screenshot:

At the next prompt, for the installation directory, it is recommended that the directory name does not have spaces; in particular, installation under C:\Program Files is not recommended. Towards the end of the process a product verification is carried out. This verifies all of the abaqus components, so any components that have not been licensed are expected to fail. In particular, if a CAE but no analysis licences have been purchased then the analysis tests will fail. During this process the Windows firewall may prompt for some features to be unblocked; it is recommended that, for correct functioning of the program, these are allowed. A window with the verification results is given; select Next to complete the installation

For further configuration options, consult the ABAQUS Installation and Licensing Guide which is available at the documentation URL that was specified during the installation or the supplied documentation CDs.
