CityDance Conservatory Students to Perform in Seeing with our Hearts

Concert Features Local Dancers in W orks by Top Choreographers

June 12, 2012 North Bethesda, MD On June 16 at 7:30pm, the young talents of CityDance Conservatory will take the main stage of the Strathmore Music Centers Concert Hall for an exciting evening of dance in the concert, Seeing with our Hearts. This second annual Conservatory Concert will present 100 of the Schools highest-level Conservatory/Select Dancers in a 90-minute performance. During the 2011-2012 season, CityDance provided its talented dancers the opportunity to work with national and international professional artists to develop their personal and artistic growth. Seeing with our Hearts highlights the challenging and complex contemporary, classical and fusion repertory that was created as a result of these partnerships with renowned artists. The evening will also feature classical repertory arrangements by Ludmila Morkovina, CityDances Ballet Mistress, who recently won the Best Coach Award at the World Ballet Competition for her preparation of CityDance Conservatory Dancer, Larissa Nugent, who won gold. Special guest appearances will include Marcelo Martinez of Carolina Ballet and young musicians of the Maryland Classical Youth Orchestra. Music selections for the performance range from Bette Midler and Duke Ellington to Tchaikovsky and Alexander Grosky. This is the last chance to see CityDances Conservatory Dancers perform before they depart for Brazil on June 23. As part of CityDances commitment to exposing its students to internationally known professional artists, 17 members of the Conservatory will go to Rio de Janeiro for a two-week educational dance exchange program, developed by Lorraine Spiegler, CityDances Artistic Director of Studio Education. The group will take classes at several notable dance centers in Rio, while also performing in showings of their existing repertory. Tickets for Seeing with our Hearts are $18 and can be purchased online at strathmore.org/eventstickets/calendar.asp or by calling 301.581.5100. (continued)
