Lindstrm Group Mission and Vision Values Sustainability

Lindstrm Group Lindstrm Group comprises the parent company Lindstrm Oy and the subsidiaries in Belarus, Bulgaria, China, Czech Republic, Estonia, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, India, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Sweden, Turkey and Ukraine and in Finland subsidiary Comforta Oy that has a subsidiary in Sweden. Lindstrm employs nearly 2 400 people and the company turnover in 2010 was 249 million euros. Lindstrm is family-owned company that was established in Finland in 1848. Over the years Lindstrm has expanded from a small dye-house to one of the leading textile service providers in Europe and Asia.

From dye house to image builder

Over the years, Lindstrm has grown for a dye house and laundry to a textile rental specialist. The 164-year-old family business has been a pioneer in its field right from the beginning.
Established in 1848, Lindstrm was originally a textile dye house situated on the hill that later became the site for the Finnish Parliament House. In the 1880s, a laundry under the name of C.A. Lindstrm & Son was established alongside the dye house in Helsinkis old town, offering the novelty of dry-cleaning services. In 1901, Lindstrm acquired a site in the Srninen district of Helsinki.

In 1922, Uusi Pesula Oy, with Chief Engineer Johan Roiha as principal shareholder, acquired the share capital of AB W.E. Lindstrm. The company was one of the largest in its field in the Nordic countries. In the 1930s, the company specialised in dyeing and industrial laundry services. As industrial laundry services declined during the post-war years and especially during the 1950s, Uusi Pesula began to concentrate on laundry services for domestic customers. The company aimed to provide affordable specialised services for households. Laundry services for domestic households took a downturn in the early 1970s, as automatic washing machines became increasingly widespread.

In the mid-1970s, Lindstrm expanded into the cleaning sector. In 1975, the company acquired Laitos-Siivous and became known for its all-inclusive services. Adding cleaning services to the portfolio of Lindstrm's companies strengthened the business concept of the Group as a whole.

The 1990s was a period of consolidation. The company decided to concentrate on textile rental instead of cleaning, waste management and laundries. Lindstrm also expanded strongly into international markets.

In the early 2000s, Suomen Hotellipalvelu was incorporated into Comforta Oy. Sales products were included alongside rental textiles, and the e-service was launched. In autumn 2002, Lindstrm patented its modular laundry, a unique innovation on an international scale. The modular laundry facilitates gradual, cost-efficient international expansion, ensuring coherent quality throughout Europe. In 2005, Lindstrm acquired Vision Design Oy, which specialises in corporate textiles and PR products, and included personal protective equipment in its workwear range.

In 2006, Lindstrm established two new subsidiaries in China and Ukraine. In 2007, Lindstrm expanded its Asian operations in India and established a subsidiary in Turkey. In 2008, Lindstrm celebrated its 160th anniversary. The company increased operations in Europe and Asia, and established a subsidiary in Bulgaria. Lindstrm merged with

its subsidiary Vision Design. In 2009, Lindstrm continued its international expansion by establishing service centres in Mumbai and New Delhi, India, as well as Peking, China, offering corporate workwear services. In Finland, Lindstrm strengthened its position in the personal protective equipment market by acquiring the PPE operations of Virtacio Oy, including staff, facilities and brands.

In 2010, Lindstrms geographical growth continued especially in Russia, India and China. In 2011, Lindstrm's operations expanded e.g. in Bulgaria and India. In 2012, subsidiaries were established in Croatia and Belarus. Also a service centre was established in Panchkula, India.
