Objective of the work:

DRAFT ONLY

Power quality, in recent years, has become an important issue and is receiving increasing attention by utility, facility, and consulting engineers. Unscheduled outages, poor voltage profile, and poor supply frequency are some of the basic power quality problems. Though analog meters and recorders are available for monitoring some of these parameters, continuous monitoring of them is practically impossible. Present equipment setups and devices used in commercial and industrial facilities, such as digital computers, power electronic devices, and automated equipment, are sensitive to many types of power disturbances. Power disturbances arising within customer facilities have increased significantly due to the increasing use of energy efficient equipment such as switch-mode power supplies, inverters for variable speed drives, and more. Here Real-Time Monitoring, recording and analysis System for Power Quality is aimed, to provide round the clock, database of the voltage/frequency profile, outage information, and data collection of power disturbances. Wish Specifications: The recorder is to store and display 1. Voltage profile 2. Frequency profile 5. Event logger.

3.Voltage unbalance

4. Supply Distortion

Functional partitioning of the project: The project is functionally partitioned into three parts Signal sensing block: o Selection of suitable current and voltage sensors o Design of protection circuitry o Integration of sensors and protection circuit with the power system Analog signal conditioning block o Selection of suitable signal conditioning method o Design of signal conditioning circuit. Data acquisition system: o Sampling of voltage and current inputs and storing in a buffer o Continuous search for waveform distortion, outage, and other disturbances and storing of those events to a disk for post acquisition analysis. Data Analysis and display system: o Generation of report of recorded events o Construction of voltage, current and frequency profile o Classification of recorded events
