Feedback for : Shell India (PPO) By : Ayush Awadhiya Placed in : Shell India (PPO) Session : 2011-12

Q. Briefly explain the prelimnary process (GD/Written test). First of all, Its Shell India (sans a PPO). Shell selects its candidates through a rigorous process of Shell Recruitment Day (SRD). This as you will find out, is one of the most organised process of selection. And this is something you will understand when you ar just like I am - A GD Hater. Also SRD process is very clear on what parameters are you being selected on. Here's a breakup of the process: 1. Short List : Okay, this is the part where you are selected on the basis of your projects and least on the HR part. But make sure you fill either of them carefully. The shortlist came and I was amongst the waitlisted candidates. The others were of varied CGPAs ranging from : 7.5 to 9.2. Be careful to have an allround work expereince. People shortlited had Robocon, IMG, Foreign Interns, Research Paper as their projects. But this isn't restrictive, so be positive. :) 2. Pre-Recruitment Briefing : This is what I loved about their process. The shortlisted students had been given a ppt a night before the SRD on what are they looking for in the candidate. And also they gave us a clear idea of what will the case study look like. Here I found out that I was in the main shortlist (and not waitlisted at all !! ) 3. Technical Interview: Next morning at 8, I had a technical Interview. The task was simple. No HR Questions. 5 mins explain about yourself. 20 mins give a summary of one of your projects as clear as possible and make sure you dont utter the words "we"/"team" etc. Only thing they are concerned with is what you did in the projects. Also make sure your project is not the same as any other candidate. You wont get selected, its that simple. 4. Lunch with the company, then people selected for the next round were announced. 5. CASE STUDY : Once you have made this far. Then you are up for the hardest case studies you'll ever see. Its not something you can practice. Its a 40 Page Case Study about Shell operating in a fictitious country. You are made the Business Operations Manger. And you have to make sure that company runs best under you. 6. Fight throught the case study to prioritize how will you do what is best according to you. Remeber just use common sense and pure common sense reasoning will get you through. For example: If you think that addressing safety is your first concern then be sure why is that.... How will you address this concern... What will be the people you'll talk to... Thats everything. 7. Remeber, just read the SHell WEBSITE COMPLETELY :)...
