1 Denition
The Call Completion on No Reply (CCNR) feature enables a subscriber to have a call attempt repeated automatically by the network node if the called subscriber does not reply. When the called subscriber has become active again the network node starts a recall to the subscriber who activated the feature. If the subscriber accepts the call from the network node, a connection is automatically set up to the subscriber without the caller having to redial the number.

Subscriber benefits time-saving greater ease of use thanks to simplied feature control Availability Analog Subscriber GeoCENTREX subscriber Use and effect Calling subscriber CCNR use CCNR effect Interactions For interaction with other features, see Feature Interactions. Standards The feature is based on the following standards: ETS 300 365 ETS 300 366 EN 300 356-20 EN 301 065 X X Called subscriber ----X X ISDN X X
2 Mode of operation
If a subscriber sets up a connection and the called subscriber does not reply, the Call Completion on No Reply (CCNR) feature can be activated by subscriber controlled input. The subscriber must of course have the appropriate authorization. In the called subscribers exchange the CCNR request is stored in the queue. If the subscriber of the destination network node becomes active within a predefined time (i.e. if the subscriber sets up an outgoing call or answers an incoming call), the destination network node informs the originating network node at the end of this call. The originating network node then starts a CCNR callback to inform the subscriber who activated the feature that the called subscriber is now available. At the same time, incoming calls to the destination network node are rejected for a specified period. The resources are reserved for the incoming CCNR call. The CCNR request is activated according to the directory number. If a subscriber accepts a CCNR callback, the originating network node automatically sets up a CCNR call to the requested subscriber. A CCNR request can be extended to multiple network nodes. This assumes that signaling system no. 7 is used for signaling between the network nodes.

Functions of the feature Analog/ISDN subscriber Activation, deactivation and status request by subscriber controlled input Storage of the call-specic data Arranging the activations or requests in the queues in accordance with the FIFO principle (rst in / rst out) Number of requests = max. 5 Point-to-point signaling of the CCNR information by transactions between the exchanges Analog Number of activations = 1 ISDN Number of activations (keypad protocol) = 1 Number of activations (function protocol) = max. 5 Activation Analog/ISDN subscriber The call data of the calling and called parties are stored in the originating network node. These are used for identication of the call and for checking compatibility. The corresponding actions for seizing the relevant network resources are initiated. Successful feature activation initiates CCNR activation in queue A and a CCNR request in queue B. Once the feature has been activated the subscriber can set up or accept further calls. Deactivation Analog/ISDN subscriber (keypad protocol) If a CCNR activation is canceled by the subscriber, the associated resources are released (active timers stopped, call data and CC references released, queues A and B updated). ISDN subscriber (function protocol) The CC reference must be entered explicitly in order to deactivate the feature. After deactivation the resources are released in the same way as for analog subscribers. This feature and the Call Completion to Busy Subscriber (CCBS) feature use the same references. Status check Analog/ISDN subscriber (keypad protocol) The status check determines whether the feature is activated. ISDN subscriber (function protocol) The status can be checked either explicitly by entering the CC reference or globally for all activations. The entries in queue A are checked and presented to the subscriber in the order of occurrence of the call data. New CCNR activation A new CCNR activation is only possible if there is a least one location free in queue A and in queue B. If either of the queues has reached its maximum number of permissible entries, no more activations or requests are stored.

Unsuccessful CCBS request Whenever a timer for monitoring specific CCNR activities expires, the CCNR request is classified as being unsuccessful. CCNR activations and requests are cleared from the queues. Subscriber becomes available in the destination network node If an access line or B-channel (ISDN) becomes free on the called side and if a CCNR request exists in queue B, the free access line or free B-channel (ISDN) is reserved for the incoming CCNR call, i.e. no more incoming calls are permitted. If the subscriber in the destination network node does not set up any outgoing calls during a specific period after becoming free, a message indicating the availability of the subscriber is sent to the originating network node. The free access line or B-channel (ISDN) is reserved for the CCNR call. If an access line or B-channel (ISDN) is available on the A-side, the originating network node notifies the subscriber who activated the feature that the called party is available by making a CCNR callback. Suspending a CCNR request If a subscribers line in the destination network node becomes available and if a CCNR request exists in his or her queue B, the request is marked as suspended if the associated subscriber in the originating network node is busy. The reservation of the access line or B-channel (for ISDN) is canceled. Other CCNR requests in queue B can be processed in the destination network node. Continuation of a CCNR request after suspension Once the subscriber in the originating network node becomes available, the destination network node is informed. The suspension of the CCNR request in queue B is canceled. A message indicating the availability of the subscriber in the destination network node can be sent to the subscriber in the originating network node again. CCNR callback If the subscriber receives a CCNR callback and accepts it within a period monitored by a timer, a call is set up automatically to the destination network node using the stored call data. This concludes the features function. The CCNR activation or CCNR request is deleted. Queues A and B are updated. The resources required for the process are also released.

Unsuccessful CCNR call Whether a CCNR request is to be retained if the subscriber in the destination network node is busy again when the CCNR call arrives can be specified according to the project. If retained, the subscriber in the originating network node is again notified when the subscriber in the destination network node becomes available again. However, if the CCNR request is not to be retained, it will be cleared from queue B. The subscriber in the originating network node can re-activate the Call Completion to Busy Subscriber (CCBS) feature if wished. Notes for ISDN PBX(BA/PA) The network only supports end-to-end signaling of the CCNR information for activation and deactivation between the network nodes. The PBX administers the CCNR requests, the queues on the calling and called sides, and CC calls. Queues Two queues are required to implement the feature. Activations (queue A) and requests (queue B) are stored in the corresponding queue. The applicable numbers of activations and requests are specified by means of definable values for the queues. If the value for one queue is set to 0, then either the feature cannot be activated or a request for the feature will be rejected. The values are administered by the operator (queue B) or can be defined project-specifically (queue A). Both queues can be used for this feature and for the Call Completion to Busy Subscriber (CCBS) feature for the corresponding activations/requests. In the case of analog and ISDN subscribers (keypad protocol), the Call Completion on No Reply (CCNR) or Call Completion to Busy Subscriber (CCBS) feature can only be activated once at any one time. For ISDN subscribers with the function protocol, multiple activations for both features can be entered in the queue at any one time. Queue A The CCNR activations are stored in queue A. Analog After CCNR activation by the calling subscriber an entry is made in the queue. If this location is occupied no further CCBS activations can be started. ISDN After CCBS activation by the calling subscriber an entry is made in the queue. Activation with the keypad protocol only allows one entry (as for analog subscribers). However, if a feature activation was started using the function protocol, further entries in the queue can be assigned with directory numbers for different destinations (maximum of 5; varies according to the project). Queue B The CCNR requests are stored in queue B. If the value of the queue = 0 no request can be stored for this subscriber. By assigning locations within the queue, a number of different subscribers can be assigned a request (max. 5; administrable by MML command). Priority of the queues An activation of queue A basically has priority over a request of queue B, i.e. if there is an activation and a request in both queues simultaneously, the activations of queue A are processed rst.

Administering the queues Deleting a CCNR activation or CCNR request A CCNR activation or CCNR request is deleted after: positive acknowledgment of a CCNR call unsuccessful CCNR callback explicit cancellation of the CCNR activation (in the case of the function protocol) by entering the CC reference during deactivation expiry of the timer The corresponding resources of queue A and B are released. The next request for queue B is processed if either a (reserved) B-channel of the ISDN subscriber or the access line of the analog subscriber becomes available when the resources are released. Any request marked as suspended is skipped. A request in queue B is marked as suspended if the subscribers access line in the originating network node is busy when the request is begun. The cancellation of the indication follows after the line becomes free. If all requests have been handled according to the FIFO principle and if the queue now only has suspended requests, the processing will not continue until the suspension has been canceled.
Timers The transactions between the network nodes are monitored by timers so that network resources are not occupied for an unlimited period. If errors occur or after timers have expired the transactions are aborted or deleted. These timers can be administered. The timer for monitoring of the feature is specific to the feature. All other timers apply to both features Call Completion to Busy Subscriber and Call Completion on No Reply. Capacity The percentages indicate the number of authorized subscribers for the feature within the network node and their simultaneous application.
