Mode of operation
Feature scenario A prepaid charge account is opened by purchasing a prepaid card or voucher. The customer receives an envelope containing a card identification number (CIN), which determines the value of the credit account. In order to set up a connection, the subscriber must first call a special service number and enter his or her individual identification number in order to obtain access to the charge account. The subscriber can now use the prepaid card and make calls. The main options provided by the Prepaid Card Service (PPCS) are as follows: Authentication and authorization of the service subscriber, depending on the available credit amount Announcement with dialog for language selection Language selection by means of user dialog or input of a service code Announcement of remaining credit when requested by input of a service code Collection of the digits of the destination directory number Monitoring of the call state and of the prepaid charge account credit Possibility of making follow-on calls (without repeated authentication) User dialog can be conducted in up to eight different languages Date of expiry of the prepaid card can be specied Suspension if the wrong PIN is entered three times Feature operation The customer dials a personal charge-free service access code (SAC) for prepaid card service (PPCS) allocated by the network operator (1). When this code is received, the integrated service logic (ISL) is activated (2). Depending on the language selection code dialed, which is part of the PPCS service number, the ISL determines whether language selection by dialog or by service number input is required. In both cases, the selected language remains in force until the end of the call (3). If dialog language selection is chosen, the service user is asked to enter the required language: Welcome to Prepaid Card Service from <operator>. Please select a language. For English, dial 1; for Italian, dial 2; for French dial 3; for German dial 4; for Russian dial 5. (4)

After selecting the language, the service user is asked to enter his or her prepaid card number: Please enter your card number followed by hash. (5) If the number entered is unknown, an announcement is played and the call is released. The card number you entered is invalid. Please contact the service center (at number <number of service center>). (6) If the prepaid card was blocked because the wrong PIN was entered three times, the following announcement is played: Your card number is suspended after wrong PIN attempts. Please call the service center (at number <number of service center>). (7) If the validity period of the prepaid card has expired, an announcement is played and the call is released. The card number you entered is expired. Please call the service center (at number <number of service center>). (8)

If a PIN code is required in order to use the prepaid card, an announcement is played: Please enter your PIN followed by hash. (9) If the PIN code is not entered correctly the first time, the customer can make two more attempts (10). After the wrong PIN has been entered three times, the prepaid card is blocked until midnight. The operator can unblock the prepaid card administratively beforehand. The following announcement is played: Your card number is suspended after wrong PIN attempts. Please call the service center (at number <number of service center>). (11) If the prepaid card is already in use by another subscriber, an announcement is played and the call is released. The card number is still in use. (12) If the credit on the prepaid card has been exhausted, an announcement is played and the call is released. There is no credit on your account, please contact the service center (at number <number of service center>). (13)

If credit is still available on the prepaid card, a check is performed to decide whether or not to announce the remaining amount of credit: Your available credit is [<actual account upper part> million] <actual account lower part> Euro Cent. (14) The service user is asked to dial the destination directory number: Please enter your destination number and press hash. (15) The integrated service logic (ISL) constantly monitors the state of the call and the prepaid charge account (16). If the remaining credit on the prepaid charge account is only sufficient to pay for a two-minute call, a special warning tone is sent to the service subscriber (17). When the credit on the prepaid account has been exhausted, the call is released automatically (18). When the service subscriber ends a call, the recorded call charges are registered and the call is released (19). If the called party terminates the call, an intermediate charge count is stored and the next call is prepared. The service user is asked to dial the next destination directory number: Please enter your destination number and press hash. (20) If the called party is busy, busy tone is applied and the next call is prepared. The service user is asked to dial the next destination directory number: Please enter your destination number and press hash. (21) If the called party does not answer within a defined time (default 15 seconds), the customer is asked to dial the next destination directory number: Please enter your destination number and press hash. (22) If the service user initiates a follow-on call by pressing the # (hash) key, the existing connection is released and the prepaid charge account is updated. Then the service user is asked to dial the next destination directory number: Please enter your destination number and press hash. (23)
