01/20/13 @1pm Inspired Awakening 01/27/13 @1pm Human Dignity 02/03/13 @1pm A World Transformed 02/10/13 @1pm The Dynamics of Hope The Faithful Revolution is a documentary record of some of the most significant events of Vatican II. It contains testimonies by many people who were fortunate to be present at this event. Originally produced in the 1990s. Each afternoon begins at 1pm in the East Room of the rectory. The DVD is one hour long each and a discussion will follow.

Wednesday Mornings after the 8:30 am Mass

Father Barron illuminates and explains the conviction of the Catholic Faith that Jesus of Nazareth is the promised messiah and the revelation of God becomes man. He shows how Jesus fulfills the four tasks of the Messiah according to the Old and New Testaments, and how the living legacy of Christ is proclaimed by the Church. Jan 23, 2013 Week 3: The Ineffable Mystery of GodThat Than Which Nothing Greater Can Be Thought Father Barron considers St. Anslems description of God as that than which nothing greater can be thought and explains St. Thomas Aquinas arguments which support the claim that God truly exists. He also speaks about the nature of God, as well as the challenging question of evil and the existence of God. Jan 30, 2013 Week 4: Our Tainted Natures Solitary Boast-Mary, the Mother of God This lesson correlates the Catholic Faiths testimony to the revelation of God in Christ with the vivid practices of reverence offered to his Mother. Mary is explained as an on-going presence, an actor in the life of the Church. All are welcome to come to one or all 10! We meet in the parish life center after the Wednesday 8:30 am Mass. For more information please contact Eileen Maggiore at 630 396 6076.

Parishioners receiving envelopes have seen a change this Month! After careful review, we have chosen a new offering envelope program with Our Sunday Visitor. They are well known publisher of many Catholic periodicals. The new envelopes will provide our parish both cost and administrative efficiencies savings. The appearance of the envelopes is also superior. Both colorful and with quotes based on scripture, preparing our envelope can be an effort in prayer and reflection on sharing our gifts with God who has first been generous to us. Another significant change is we have simplified our envelopes. The gold has been eliminated and the green has been reduced to once a month. You will continue to receive St Vincent DePaul and holy day envelopes monthly. The intent is to simplify your giving while allowing you to be as generous as you were in the past, and if your situation allows you to be more generous. What you gave to the gold in the past can be used in the green or Sunday offering envelopes based on your preference. Green envelopes will continue to be a restricted fund used for debt reduction. Paying off our debt remains a top priority for our parish. Just like you pay your personal bills monthly, we ask you to allocate a generous monthly giving to the green envelope in an amount equal or greater to what you previously gave per month. To date we are 8% behind on our monthly offering goals. Please try to help us make this up by reviewing your situation and if possible increase your giving with our new simplified offertory program. Electronic giving also remains an option, please see our parish web site or contact Elaine Ward for more information if you feel this might be a better option for you. We thank you in advance for your cooperation with this change in our offering envelope program. If you have any questions contact the Parish Office at 630.629.1717 or email the Finance council at Finance@ctklombard.org. Thank you for your continued generous support of Christ the King Parish. Because of your gifts to our parish offertory, we are able to minister to so many people every year. Together, we are the Body of Christ. Forty Years of Tears

......Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgins name was Mary And coming to her, he said, Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you. ~~Luke 1:26-28 And so it was, the womb of all women became consecrated, a Holy place undefiled by fallen man, through the Incarnation of Our Lord Jesus Christ. At the moment the Holy Spirit came upon Mary, she knew she was with Child. For no sooner did Gabriel depart, Mary went to visit Elizabeth, at the angels mention, who was with child with John the Baptist. When Mary arrived the baby in Elizabeths womb leapt. For Elizabeth recognized Mary and John recognized our Lord in Marys womb, then only about ten days old. Life begins at conception, not at birth. The Nativity narrative is a very important story in the defense of life. Our savior Jesus Christ was born of a Virgin to put an end to death. This January 22nd is the fortieth anniversary of the Supreme Court decision known as Roe vs. Wade. It is an inauspicious anniversary but one that needs to be recognized. In the two score years since that Supreme Court decision more than fifty five million lives have been lost to, and many more ruined, to the tragedy of abortion. We can only imagine the cost of such a loss on a country with three hundred million people. It comes to almost seventeen percent of our current population. Life is very precious, as anyone who has lost a loved one knows. But life is more than mortal life here on earth, it is eternal when we follow in the footsteps of Christ. Please remember those whose lives are in danger of being shortened, the unborn, the aged and the condemned. We must continue to be a people instilled with the light of Christ and the love for life as God willed it. We must join with the Church to defend life. Then maybe we can put an end to these anniversaries. So let us Pray: Lord God please Bless all those who are considering abortion that their minds may come to be in line with Gods Will. Let us also pray for all those who are the victims of abortion: the mothers, fathers, children, brothers, sisters, and the baby whose life can be saved. Let us do all we can to make next year the first celebration of the end to the culture of death and a new beginning to the light of life which is that of Christ. Yours in Christ, Deacon Peter Robinson

This month our parish (with the initiative of the Council of Catholic Women) will be participating in a special fundraiser to promote and further a Culture of Life within our parish and local community. The proceeds of this event will help support the lifesaving work of Womans Choice Services, a Catholic pregnancy center in Lombard. The WCS team counsels the young man/woman, offers mothering classes, ultra sounds are done at the center, etc. Volunteers from our parish give of their time and talent at the center. On the weekend of January 19th & 20th, baby bottles will be distributed to parishioners to take home and fill with spare change. Bottles will then be returned to the parish on the weekends of February 9th & 10th. This service project is a great way for each member of the family/household to help in building a Culture of Life. Thank you in advance for your response to the call of the Gospel to serve those in great need! Thank you to all those parishioners who attended the Gala for Life Banquet and for the support of the parish. This year let us spiritually adopt a mother and child who come through the doors of Womans Choice Services of Lombard and Joliet. Fr. Peter Jarosz, Vice President WCS

Prayer request: Please pray for families and friends of those who died in the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut, on December 14th. Pray also for all of those who continue to suffer from natural disasters here in this country and around the world. January 21 Come for Chili! Start off the New Year by joining us for supper. On the menu: Chili with all the fixings and a selection of yummy sweets. After supper there will be a showing of the movie: October Baby. The film is about a teenaged girl who finds that she lived through a late-term abortion. Come and bring a friend. The Monday meeting will be held in the Parish Life Center and begin at 6:30 p.m. It is a good way to celebrate the Right to Life Month.

THE 2013 CATHOLIC MINISTRIES ANNUAL APPEAL IS UNDERWAY THE LORD SUSTAINS HIS PEOPLE
The 2013 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal begins with a mailing that many of our parishioners have received or will soon receive. This is a mailing from Bishop Conlon asking for a pledge to the 2013 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal. The Appeal not only funds many of the operations of the diocese, it funds services that are of great help to the ministries here in our parish. This year, the theme of the Appeal is The Lord Sustains His People. The Lord sustains each of us in many ways. His life, death and resurrection were all gifts to each of us. He gives us all that we have. He gave us our Church. That Church, through our parish, our diocese, and throughout the world offers us not only spiritual but many other forms of sustenance. God never forgets us. Even when we believe that our successes are self-made, it is His love that sustains each of us. He is always giving to us. His grace is always there for us. One way that we can show our gratitude is by offering our generous financial support to our parish and to our diocese and to the Church throughout the world. The gifts we give enable ministries, education, and services that touch thousands of lives. Our parish goal is $__56,642 _. With your support, we can reach and exceed this goal. Please answer Bishop Conlons request and make a generous pledge. All pledges can be paid in 10 monthly installments. Thank you in advance for your support.
In todays second reading, Saint Paul makes a list of gifts dispensed to members of the Christian community by the Holy Spirit. Each gift bestowed has a specific purpose for the person for whom it is intended: wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, mighty deeds, prophecy, discernment, tongues, and interpretation. Good stewards know these gifts are not meant to be kept hidden by the recipient but to be shared with the community and beyond. As we begin a new year, let us reflect on the gift the Holy Spirit has given to each of us. Do we recognize this gift? How was it intended that we use this gift? Are we being good stewards of this gift?

Lord God, You alone are the source of every good

gift, of the vast array of our universe, and the mystery of each human life. We praise you and we thank you for your great power and your tender, faithful love. Everything we are and everything we have is your gift, and after having created us you have given us into the keeping of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen

Christ the King Mission Statement

The People of Christ the King in Lombard are a welcoming, vibrant faith community building the kingdom of God through our many ministries. We celebrate our diversity, seeking to realize the gifts of each member of our parish, as we are all joined together under one faith, in a spiritual journey of evangelization, service to others, and a reverence for all life. In the Eucharist, we find new life, and bring this life to others through stewardship, education, and worship.
