Thomas Harrison, PhD (2013) Neuroscience CFIS GRADUATE AWARD My research looks at brain plasticity during the period of spontaneous recovery after stroke. This award came as a pleasant surprise. It fully covered my tuition and fees, which are a substantial expense even for students holding external funding. Jennifer Bedore, MA (2011) Planning Annie Aftab, PhD (2012) Cell and Developmental Biology NSERC POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP Receiving this award was a real confidence booster; it affirmed that I was asking important scientific questions on how cancer invades the brain. As a graduate student I go through many highs and lows, and receiving an award like this served as the accelerant I had been looking for.

More than 600 students in 12 graduate programs CFIS provides students with a collaborative research experience they might not otherwise have working within a single discipline. Students and faculty have an extraordinary opportunity to solve complex problems drawing on diverse disciplines. Your gifts provide CFIS students with the opportunity to pursue their passions, and take their achievements out into the world.

BRAHM WEISMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship will enable me to conduct research on best practices for irrigation management in the Philippines. It will pay for accommodation, a research assistant and travel costs. As I will be managing water resources in developing countries when I graduate, this experience is crucial to my future success.
