FRANCE Short Biography 1713 Willox Court, Unit A Fort Collins, Colorado 80524 Professional Interests: Forensic anthropology, osteology, human identification, human and nonhuman osteology. Professional Experience: Dr. France received her Ph.D. in Anthropology at the University of Colorado, Boulder, in 1983 with an emphasis on forensic anthropology and osteology. In 1989 the American Board of Forensic Anthropology certified her as an expert in forensic anthropology. She has been recognized as an expert by multiple Colorado district courts as well as in Wisconsin. Dr. France taught as an assistant professor at Colorado State University for several years and was the Director for the universitys Laboratory of Human Identification for over twenty years. She continues to be an adjunct faculty member of CSU. She is now the owner and director of the Human Identification Laboratory of Colorado, an independent laboratory. She has served four terms on the Board of Directors of the American Board of Forensic Anthropology and served for five years as its president. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS) and served as vice chairman and chairman of the Physical Anthropology Section of the AAFS. In 2010 she was awarded the T. Dale Stewart Award (the highest award given by the section). Dr. France served eight years on the Board of Trustees of the Forensic Science Foundation and served four of those years as its Vice Chairman. She also served as Chairman of the Research Committee for three years and has participated in the Research Committee as an outside member since leaving the Board of Trustees in 2003. Dr. France has experience in archaeological techniques, particularly as they relate to recovery of human remains and evidence from outdoor scenes. She is a member (since 1989) and past-president of NecroSearch International, a volunteer multidisciplinary organization that assists law enforcement in the location of clandestine graves and the recovery of remains and evidence from outdoor scenes. She has been a member and past president of the Colorado Body Identification Team (the team is now inactive) and is retired from the federal Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team, after serving over 15 years. Dr. France is the author of three professional books and numerous other publications and is under contract for additional books. She is frequently invited to speak in various venues around the world. In 2004 she was the subject of a biography entitled Bone Detective: The Story of Forensic Anthropologist Diane France by Lorraine Jean Hopping, published by Joseph Henry Press/Scholastic Press as one of a ten-volume series Womens Adventures in Science sponsored by the National Academies of Science. As a result she was invited to speak at the Distinguished Voices at the Beckman Center, sponsored by the National

Academies of Sciences.

Dr. France has been molding and casting museum quality anatomical specimens for over 30 years. She owned and operated France Casting for 25 years and continues to be involved in providing molds for that continuing business enterprise. She is now the owner and director of France Custom Casting, which provides museum quality replicas of forensic specimens, fragile originals and in other special circumstances.
