Bus service changes
THere are a number of changes to bus services covering the Heswall area beginning this month. From 18th February the Avon commercial Services 22 & 24, west Kirby, Heswall, Neston & Chester will be revised to operate so that all journeys will go via Parkgate (hourly) Monday to Saturday as part replacement for service 272. To cover the shortfall in capacity between Heswall and Neston High at school times, some journeys will operate via Heswall lower Village at appropriate times. This should resolve the concerns expressed by parents from the lower Village. The temporary GHA Service 272 will cease to operate between Neston and arrowe Park Hospital after 16th February. There are six buses an hour from Heswall to arrowe Park Hospital provided by arriVa and First (or Stagecoach by then) on services 471 / 472. The Arriva commercial service 487 to and from liverpool will be extended to serve little Neston and Ness Gardens as from 17th February. This will operate every 30 minutes, daytimes Monday to Saturday. evening and Sunday services will be unchanged. Drink driving charge a 61-year-old man, from west Grove, lower Heswall appeared before wirral Magistrates charged with drink driving on May road, Heswall. He pleaded guilty and was fined 450 along with 85 costs and 45 surcharge. He was also disqualified from driving for 20 months. From the courts l MaGiSTraTeS jailed a Pensby man for three months after he admitted common assault in Milton Crescent, Heswall. The 36-year-old, who lives in ridgemere road, was given a further two months for being in breach of two previous community orders. l AN Irby man was fined by magistrates for possession of cannabis. The 22-year-old, who hails from Parkway Close, admitted the offence at wirral Magistrates Court and was fined 100, along with 85 costs and a 20 victim surcharge. l a 20-year-old woman from Coombe road, irby, was jailed for 12 weeks and banned from driving for a year after admitting drink driving and aggravated theft of a vehicle on Storeton Lane, Barnston. Beach spraying is like fighting nature a wirral conservation group has backed the councils plans to end maintenance of the peninsula beaches. wirral Council is cutting back on beach maintenance to save money, and one of the side effects is that it will not be spraying the sands in an attempt to stop marsh grasses growing. The move has received the backing of wirral wildlife, the local branch of Cheshire wildlife Trust, which says that spraying the sands is like fighting nature. wirral wildlife says that the dee estuary has been silting up for centuries and the growth of marsh grass is just a natural process. Of course, the conservationists were less happy about the council cutbacks which could mean that litter is left on the beaches.

Pupils swap the classroom for th

CHIldREn from the Year 5 and 6 classes of Heswall Primary School have been getting creative in an exciting and new way of learning. In September 2012, the children were given a brief to design, build and then sell their own model cars. For inspiration, Martin Benbow from lookers Birkenhead brought a brand new Ampera electric car for them to look at and answered many questions about the industrys most up to date technology. Children then visited the Jaguar land Rover factory in Halewood where Ken Jones showed the youngsters how cars were designed and built on a huge scale. Finally, Alan Jones, a sales manager from Windsors Fiat Showroom in Heswall, provided the children with tips on selling cars. In school, children used the advice given and set about making their own models. On completion the children turned the school hall into a car showroom as they competed for Car of the Year. during the showroom experience, pupils used their sales techniques to garner votes from the many parents, grandparents, staff and younger classes who visited throughout the day. The winning car The lemon CHB5000 was created by Year 6 pupils, Hannah, Beth and Chloe, who even managed to add remote controls to operate their creation. Representatives from the motor industry were present and extremely impressed with the creativity shown by pupils. Also impressed was the Headteacher, John Roberts, who said:The car showroom provided the children with a wonderful learning experience, rich with opportunities for developing dT skills alongside other important speaking and listening skills. Year 6 teacher Jon lawrenson said: Weve had some wonderful feedback from parents who really enjoyed the showroom, and the children have been so keen to work as the learning has been so real and purposeful. The focus of our next big creative event will be towns and villages across the Wirral.

Joshua is an engineer in the making

JOSHua Molyneux, from Neston air Cadets, has been named one of the six national winners of the We Made It competition within schools. Joshua designed a toothpaste dispenser for children which distributes the right pea-sized amout of toothpaste required for a childs daily brushing. He was presented with his award at an awards ceremony at the Houses of Parliament in January. His love of the air Cadets and all things raF has helped him to decide that his future is an engineer in the raF. So to help him in his quest, he decided to take a BTec Engineering course as one of his subjects at school.

A GROUP of 24 seriously ill children and 12 adults enjoyed a fantastic trip to lapland, in a visit organised by Wirrals northern lights charity. The children had all sorts of experiences on the trip to the Arctic Circle, including the chance to see reindeer and Arctic wolves as well as going on snowmobiles and sledging at -30 degrees! One of the organisers, Mandy Powell, said: To see their faces parents and children, and to feel their warmth and gratitude was quite an experience. It is the faces, the excitement, hopes and wishes that will remain in our memories from our trip. northern lights, formerly known as the Christopher Johnson Fund, has over 25 years of experience in organising this type of holiday where seriously ill children are given the chance to experience the Christmas of a lifetime.
