Happy Republic Day

Happy Lohri
From The Executive Board
Another year had come to an end and today we are in 2013! A year that is looking promising for us as a federation to further reach to our primary aim which is to lay down the foundation to ensure the transformation from medical students to physicians-in-training. We at MSAI-India believe this transformation is very important for todays world to ensure our medical and dental students in India will not miss the opportunities to engage themselves in global healthcare issues in the name of being students in a medical school in India. Students should start engaging themselves in these issues as we are our countrys future and physician-leaders of tomorrows India. We would like to thank all of you for continuously supporting us to reach greater heights!

Exclusive Coverage: Organ Donation The Gift of Life

When I sat down to write an article about organ donation, what kept bothering me was, why is this even an issue??? I personally feel this is the most senseless issue that I have ever come across! Dont get me wrong, not because it isnt important but what I cant wrap my mind around iswhy is it a topic of debate?? A clause for persuasion? Just to make sure we are on the same page here - Are we talking about organ donation - The greatest of humanitarian act a person can do for a fellow being?
What each one of us carry, within us has ability to give a second chance at life, which is to perpetuate life after we are gone, why do we still have to think about, whether to donate or not? What I fail to process is that, is there any logical reason at all to deny someone less fortunate than us the greatest gift ever - the Gift of Life. I mean why should we have to go through a procedure of signing up for OD at all? Instead there should be a registration process for people who might want to waver with selfishness. Why do I feel so strongly for it? I think you will surely find your answer in these mind boggling statistics: In India, we have only 0.08 donors per million populations which mean only 2% of kidney transplant requirements and 3% of liver transplant requirements are met in India. And friends, let me remind you- these are not just numbers. These figures represent a person - someones child, someones parent or siblingsomeones family desperately waiting for a second chance for life. Where you think your organs are needed more- heaven or earth? Think about it. Now, if I may ask, like many others I see around me, are you too skeptical about OD? Are these, the questions that bug you: Is it a religious misconduct? Will it cost me money? Would my body be disfigured after the harvesting process? Is the registration irreversible? Am I too young or too old for OD? Well, the answer to all these questions is no! In our hearts, we all dream/wish for different things: success, love, money, etc., but the sad truth is- some dream of making it to their next birthday!! For someone you can be a breath of fresh air, a shimmering ray of light, a heartbeat the miracle of life! Somebody is cryingsomebody begging in pain for a new organ.a new life. Dont take them to the grave with you! If you are not an organ donor, remember, when you die, someone dies with you.

IFMSA India Salutes Them!

We pay our tribute to the martyr soldiers; Lance Naik Sudhakar Singh & Hemraj Singh who were killed in the recent incidents at L.O.C, Kashmir on 6th of January. We as medical students strongly condemn the violation of cease fire & we also feel this will only derail the process of peace and friendship between the two nations. It is our hope that our neighbours will look into this matter with great sensitivity and hope peace will be restored. On behalf of IFMSA-INDIA , we express condolence to the families of the soldiers.
