The Northshore School District..has the eleventh-largest pupil enrollment in Washington State. The district contains approximately 125,000 people and enrolls approximately 20,000 students in grades K-12. There are twenty elementary schools, six junior high schools, and three high schools, plus an alternative high school, Northshore Networks, and a pre-school program. The district encompasses 60 square miles, stretching from Lake Washington on the west to the Snoqualmie River Valley on the east, and from Mill Creek and Maltby on the north to Redmond and Juanita on the south. Building on a strong base of public education founded in the community in 1878, Northshore offers basic and special education, gifted and honors classes, optional alternative education, a nationally recognized music and fine arts program, diversified vocational education offerings and special programs such as English Language Learners and outdoor education. The district employs 2,400 people, of which approximately 1,200 are certificated. Northshore enjoys good labor relations with its employees and provides a variety of professional development opportunities for employees. The district lies within close proximity of five universities and six community colleges for continuing education. The Northshore School Board seeks staff and community input for its planning; citizens are involved through a variety of special committees and task forces, and web surveys. The district has excellent community support and parental involvement and benefits from continuous voter support of school levies (since 1942).

Strengthening Our Community Through Excellence in Education

Scope of Responsibilities: This position serves as administrative officer of the school, reporting directly to the Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education. As the principal of an elementary school, the position provides educational, instructional, and operational leadership. The principal is the model of integrity and ethical behavior for staff, students, parents, and key stakeholders. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, coordinating, and evaluating staff, programs, and services within the school. The elementary principal position provides leadership in the continual interpretation of educational programs to staff and parents; directs staffing and budgetary decisions; interprets the Northshore School District mission and policies to school staff and the school service area citizen groups; and maintains positive working relationships with all stakeholders of the Northshore School District. Duties and Responsibilities: Direct, implement, and evaluate the building instructional program. Hire, supervise, and evaluate staff. Supervise the operation and care of the building, grounds, and other school property. Work cooperatively with the Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education and other administrators in executing programs to assure system-wide improvement. Maintain accurate school records and reports as required. Manage building funds using the districtapproved accounting system in accordance with district guidelines and school objectives. Follow district policies and procedures and establish school procedures for the effective operation of the school. Perform related duties consistent with the job description and employee assignment.

A minimum of three years transferable experience as a successful classroom teacher. School administration and management skills including: skill in planning, organizing, and delegating; skill in human relations, problem solving and building a positive culture; skill in oral and written communication; experience in implementing shared decision-making models; ability to interpret educational programs to staff and community; ability to supervise the operation and care of the building, grounds, and other school property; ability to maintain accurate school records and reports as required. Knowledge of school finance including the ability to analyze and maintain the building budget and direct budgetary decisions. Ability to increase the effectiveness of the educational program including the ability to analyze data about school and student performance and respond with appropriate goals and strategies and demonstrate current knowledge of rules, regulations, legislation, technology, and procedures governing instructional programs. Ability to lead staff to work collaboratively in professional learning communities and experience in developing and presenting inservices and professional development. Demonstrated interest in pupils, employees, patrons, and subjects taught in school including the ability to direct, supervise, and evaluate the instructional curricular program. Ability to develop a school climate that challenges and motivates students and staff; ability to assist with planning and implementing an integrated educational infrastructure to provide intervention and support for struggling learners; and the ability to interpret educational programs to staff and the community. Demonstrated ability and performance of evaluation of school personnel including directing and evaluating the work of all assigned staff, and providing leadership and vision in encouraging professional development to keep staff current on instructional best practices.

Compensation/Salary: Salary Range: $103,894 - $109,035* With PhD/EdD degree: $106,327 - $111,468 *Salary is based on the current 2012/2013 salary schedule and may be adjusted. Work Year: Full time, 12 month position. 220 work days, 25 vacation days, 13 paid holidays, and 2 personal days.
