EMERGENCY ROOM

GENERAL OBJECTIVE
To hone my skills in providing quality basic nursing emergent care to patients with emergent and nonemergent cases

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE To be able to render prompt quality nursing care. To be able to classify patients according to their needs. COMPETENCIES Accountability.Accept personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work. Goal measurement: Understand, communicate and measure goals accurately. Focus: Stay focused on tasks in spite of distractions and interruptions. Time efficiency: Make the best use of available time and resources. Acknowledge & correct mistakes: Do not make excuses for errors or problems; acknowledge and correct mistakes. Assume responsibility: Do not attempt to diffuse blame for not meeting expectations; face up to problems with people quicklyand directly. Judgment.Display balanced thinking that combines analysis, wisdom, experience and perspective. Learn from past similarities: Notice similarities between current and past situations, and from that, identify a course of action. Consider decision impacts: Consider the impact of decisions on co-workers and other organizational units. Make analysis-based decisions: Recognize and carefully weigh pros and cons of a prospective action, identify options and choose a course of action to address issues. Stress Tolerance. Recognize whento pause to allow the listener time to assimilate information and ask questions. Paraphrase: Actively listen to other people taking part in the conversation. Non-verbal communication: Appropriately utilize body language, facial expressions, and vocal inflection and tone to help conveyideas and information. Rules of language, verbal: Consistently follow accepted rules of language regarding grammar, word usage, and sentencestructure. Clear presentation: Explain or present information in a clear, concise, logical manner that achieves understanding of theintended message. Key information: Ensure that all pertinent information is included in the spoken message; emphasize the most important points,resulting in quick understanding of the materials essence.

Management.Ability to lead, and mentor, while demonstrating the application of the nursing process, providing experienced and creative approaches to management of complex patient care in order to develop future nurse leaders.Knowledge of individual competence and qualifications, and using informed judgement as criteria in order to delegate nursing activities to others. Leadership.The ability to anticipate and manage change, understand current problems, evaluate new evidence and emerging techniques in order to enhance nursing management and performance. Research. Knowledge and ability to conduct/participate in research studies concerning emergency, trauma, and acute care nursing, disease prevalence, managed care, wellness, and health promotion in order to maintain a dynamic and viable organization, meeting and anticipating the needs of our patient population and society at large. 12 Lead ECG.Demonstrates proper skin preparation.Demonstrates the ability to obtain quality ECGs and troubleshoot those of poor quality. Proper documentation and correctly attaches leads Medication. Accurately administers medications to and performs treatments on assigned patients. Assessment and Classification of patient. Assesses the patient's condition and nursing needs, sets goals, and prescribes appropriate nursing actions to meet those goals and the physical, psychological, social, and rehabilitative needs of the patient, including discharge planning. Pain Scale. Assesses, intervenes, and reassesses the patient's self-report/symptoms of pain promptly. Utilizes an appropriate tool for assessment and reassessment (0-10 numerical scale, or FACES) Assists Procedures. Assists physicians with special tests and procedures, such as thoracentesis, lumbar tap, etc. (Those specific to patient population). Basic Cardiac Life Support. Assess the severity of airway obstruction, if any. Demonstrate proper counting and proper chest compression.
